We stayed in a chalet. Room was generally clean however several things were not up to standard.
. The heater did not work
. The queen bed had a single bed electric blanket. This also did not work.
. The shower gel provided was empty
. There were cobwebs in the loft ceiling
. Heavy rain over night had us waking to a a stream of water coming through the bottom of the front door where the seal was absent.

Room tip: Chalet was roomy and slept up to 4

We booked to stay at the Mt Cook Lodge as the hermitage is was too expensive for one night. We requested a balcony with mountain views. The room itself is good for a night or two, very simple but the views are simply amazing!! The staff are friendly and the bar on the top level is good.

I have stayed previously at the hermitage, and yes the rooms at the hermitage are cleaner and very modern however they are very expensive! I would say for the price Mt Cook Lodge and Motels are good value for money and I would recommend you request for the balcony as it is the best part of staying at this motel!

The dorm with balcony 533 was nice! Beds were soft and the room big enough. Bathroom very old and didn't look very clean. The walls are so thin that when neighbour's were walking in and out it seemed they were entering our room.
WiFi was paid... 5 dollars for 24 hrs.
Restaurant is very delicious!
Big difference in friendliness of receptionists, some very welcoming and other cold.

Stayed at the Motel Studio Deluxe as The Hermitage Hotel was a little pricey. The Motel Studio Deluxe has been refurbished, everything looks modern and relatively new. The bed comes with a heater function for each side of the double bed which is good for travelling mates who have different needs. Hair dryer is available in the bathroom, something which is important to me. Worth staying for a night.
