The facilities are excellent but what sets this place apart from the competition is the excellence of the cooking. I very rarely take pictures of food but did so here and the home cured salmon and the pudding shown below were truly excellent not to mention the main course of roast lamb. As a solo traveller it was good to join a communal meal with the other five guests and our hosts. A very convivial occasion.
It was so magnificent I decided to stay on an extra night (also waiting for the clear day at Mount Cook) and although booked up, Kieran and Lynn fixed me up with a neighbour within walking distance so that I could return for my dinner with a completely different but every bit as good menu

We were very happy to be welcomed by our gracious hosts Lyn and Kieran on a very wet and cold afternoon with a dry place for the bikes, gorgeous rooms to shower and freshen up, tea and home baking.
With the most excellent catering and charming surroundings we found "Riverside" a warm and comfortable haven from Cyclone Cook! We hope to come back one day.
