I stayed here on my a2o cycle trail. Kurow itself seems to be stuck in the 1970's and so is the motel.

The rooms are clean and the bed was good however, and after a days cycling that's what you want.

Al the furniture, and the cooker date to the 70's but not in a vintage way, is all that old and a bit worn, but not broken. Dont expect much in this place , but if you are looking for a place to rest its perfectly fine

This place has changed ownership as we paid today after fortnight staying there. We stayed in both houses and changes half way through due to the first house being booked out which we knew about months ago - all good. We wish the new owners the best of luck in their new venture. There is a lot needs doing around the grounds, and a bit more gear needed in the kitchens, sure, BUT.... everything is SPOTLESS which totally makes you overlook that detail. .... and special mention to the outgoing Manageress Carmen who did EVERYTHING to accommodate our every wish, - and then some ! Friendly Service and went out of her way to go far beyond duty for us. E.g. getting us a live Christmas Tree and decorating it for us while out !! (not kidding) and offering to hang out our washing, putting our dishes away that were drying and one day actually doing them for us (so embarrassed) and even letting us use a bigger kitchen in the other house when we had guests one evening. Amazing THANKYOU SO MUCH guys !!!

To be honest we have driven past many times and not thought much from the outside. But while on the A2O cycle trail we stayed here. From the friendly welcome to the spacious/clean unit, this was a pleasant experience. You can't expect 5 star in rural towns but we wanted a comfy unit, hot shower and good bed. Nailed. Thanks ladies!!!

Must have been lovely in the 1960's but no one has spent money on it until recently and it shows.

Our room was double glazed, very clean, had a modern kitchenette, new vinyl, a modern heat lamp with exhaust fan unit in the shower room and the manager was helpful. Thank you!

Everything else is very very very very old or old fashioned.

So they are obviously upgrading it but starting from a point well back due to a complete lack of upgrading for previous decades.

Would not be so bad but their price of $100 was extreme, it really is only the standard of an average backpacker for maybe $65 per night. I use in contrast the place we stayed at in Oamaru for the 2 previous nights. That was $120 per night for 3 times the space and everything spotlessly bright, comfortable and modern at Northstar Motel.

I would be happy to stay there again if they reduced their price, it just left me feeling ripped off.

Room tip: Not sure if there are any better rooms..... check out a local B&B to compare, or the motor camp
