Very retro, very quirky, very friendly and very, VERY delicious food. It's about one hour from Lake Tekapo. We stumbled upon it by accident as it was on the main road as we drove through on the way to Christchurch and we decided to stop for an early lunch. We all had different items from the menu and all four of us were happy with our meals. Would definitely recommend.

Cheese rolls where to die for. Bacon butty was just as i remember from being young, lashings of bacon slapped between a 2 slices of fresh buttered bread :)
Home made baked beans again were amazing.

Try one of their signature burgers, their delicious range of Not Burgers, and don’t forget to sample one of the craft beers in the fridge. Kiwi batch living never looked so good or tasted so great. Oh…and don’t forget to check out the toilet which is decorated with old record sleeves and topo maps. Like I said: the coolest cafe in the Universe!

We went to the running duck due to trip advisor rating and others saying it was great, but, the duck didn’t stack up for the following reasons, the sea food chowder was runny, not thick and creamy, two small tinned muscles and shrimps, with a couple of pieces of fish; less than average. The service was very slow, 45 minutes for soup and fried chicken, definitely not worth the wait🤨
