Great welcome from Fiona, the lively and very engaging owner, at this simple and quirky motel. Yes, the rooms are rather old-looking and may need a lick of paint, and the furnishings are not exactly 5 star, but we loved staying here!

The wifi is free, you can ask for as many vouchers as you want. There are books and DVDs in the library, and Fi was able to give us maps and excellentl advice on good walking tracks.

We walked into the centre of the village via JC's track which runs alongside the river, rather than the road. Turn right out of the motel, walk 150 meet and go under the road and railway track bridges. It takes just 15 minutes to reach the car park, from which Arthur's Walkway and many of the tracks start. Don't miss the hilarious Mort's Loop on the way, which is literally a 10-metre diversion. It's signposted on the way back.

Great little place to stay, uncomplicated and very much in keeping with the ambience of the whole village of Arthur's Pass.

Thanks for posting a review of your stay with us. JC's track is named after a long term resident (55 years!!) of Arthur's Pass who developed the track. Mort's loop is actually the whole larger loop that heads toward the river, rather than just the 4m side track, although the rock sign does suggest it is that. Outside painting at the Motel is on the agenda for May, where we should get settled weather and slightly quieter tourist season.
Thanks for staying in "Our gem in the Southern Alps", Pete and Fi

Nice and clean motel in Arthur´s Pass, five minutes walk to shop, café and restaurant. We stayed only one night and we had huge room with two bedrooms. Friendly host gave us all the information what we needed. There is a railway near the village and many trains pass it during that night (maybe not every night) - some noise, that may disturb sleeping.
There are many alternatives for tracks. We went to Devils Punchbowl Walking Track. There was a lot of steps, it really was an exercise but what a nice view! We had delicious pizza at the restaurant and flat whites at the café. Arthur´s Pass is very worth of visiting, and this motel for accommodation.

Thanks for your review. How fantastic that at the end of some exercise you get rewarded with some spectacular scenery. The Devil's Punchbowl waterfall is always impressive but after rain it is just that bit more stunning, and if you are lucky you get to feel the misty spray whirling round as it rises out of the punchbowl. Thanks for visiting Arthur's Pass and us.

Most people spend only one night in this village (the clue is in the name of the place) which is a pity for the immediate area offers interesting history and superb scenic walking. Pete and Fi the owners of the Alpine Motel are walkers themselves and were only too pleased to offer sound advice that helped us make the most of our 2 night break.

Our "standard" timber cabin was very reasonably priced, clean, had a comfortable bed, free WiFi and enough seating and self-catering facilities for our needs. However it was rather small and basic by modern standards. Suitcase storage space in particular was at a premium and the shower-room was small, lacking power for a hairdryer, razor etc. With hindsight, as we were staying more than 1 night, we could and should have booked a larger unit with a separate bedroom.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay with us. The unit you had, we try and keep for 1 night stays only, our other double cabins offer a bit more space. If you choose to come back, feel free to contact us direct as we offer discounts or room upgrades for bookings made direct with us or on our website. Funny you should mention power points as the day you left (Thursday) we had Aotea Electric come in to provide a quote to put power points in every bathroom. It's great you were able to make the most of the walks in the area. Today is definitely an inside day with a storm about to sweep across the South Island.
Thanks for staying, Pete and Fi.

Comfy cabins, especially when we got a 2 bedroom with a kitchen. Great views at the far edge of the village, so close to the mountains! The owners were helpful and had lots of tips. There are few places to eat in the village, so a small kitchen is almost necessary.

Hi,
Thanks for your review of your recent stay with us. We love being able to share our knowledge of the area with our guests. A lot of travellers like to do their own catering so we're glad you were able to make use of the well equipped kitchen in your room.

A quaint little cabin, dated but charming, and very much characteristic of the area. Enjoyed having a separate bedroom to the little kitchen and living room. The owner is lovely and really accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer in this charming little mountaineer town.

There is not a lot around the area by way of open stores/café’s as you would have read from reviews of Arthur’s Pass it self, however that is the beauty of this quiet little place! There is a great pub just down the road from the cabins that pretty much caters for all. Plenty of lovely hiking trails/tracks around the place and check out the visitors Centre for a full report of the conditions. Would love to return to Arthur’s Pass again and would definitely stay here again.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to post a review after your recent stay with us. We're slowly getting all the rooms updated, new carpet, paint, beds, duvets etc etc. Glad we were able to send you in the right direction to take in some of the many walks we have on our doorstep.
Hopefully you enjoyed the rest of your trip as much as you enjoyed your time in Arthur's Pass..
See you next time, Pete and Fi
