We pulled off the road and up into the Viaduct look out. There was plenty of car parking available.
It was good to get out and stretch the legs and look at the engineering marvel that is the Otira Viaduct. It was opened in November 1999 and replaced the old road and making it a lot safer to travel.
Just watch the naughty Kea's. They are absolute terrors and hilarious if they are trying to destroy someone else's car. We watched two harass a mother and her kids, try and get into the back of the SUV and then get on the roof and start to chew up the car. We left at that stage as we could get out while they were preoccupied.
Worth a stop and a look and some photos if you are going past.

Along Arthur’s Pass you’ll come across this piece of engineering marvel. It makes for a good way to break up the trip and snap some great photos

The day we had to drive thru here, there was heavy snow overnight. The roads were closed till 1pm and all vehicles had to carry chains. We were fortunate to rent them and had them in the car. But many cars had to buy a new set from the petrol station and it costed a bomb. We waited for about 1 hour before the roads opened. Thankfully we didn't have to use our chains and the drive was very pleasant and the scenary was really unforgettable. Blanketed with snow. Drive slowly and give yourself enough time for sure. This is not an easy drive and take breaks between.

We missed the view but still a very nice place. We also get to see Keas and hoping for food. Don't feed them as human food is harmful and turns kea into beggars.
