This is an interesting place as was the senic drive there. We attempted the circular walk but did not complete. The birds were very quiet so we did not see many. The information center is very good and staff very helpful. We will definalty go back, we stopped near the waterfall for lunch.

Thank deepsky

Received a good welcome at the farmhouse. The recommended walk was good although it was cold so the birds were not showing well. The dipper hide lacked the dipper but did had a pied flycatcher in a nestbox. Picniced near the falls.I will come back.

Situated off the main road, 10 minutes N of Rhyader. Gilfach is particularly worth visiting because of the wide variety of habitats, from open moorland to oak woodland and river valleys. This results in a good variety of bird species - in a couple of hours we had good views of Pied Flycatcher, Redstart, Dipper, Goosander, Wood Warbler and Red Kites as well as a range of commoner species.

Get there early and you'll have the place to yourself.

This place is wonderful with its beautiful views and easy to follow wayward walks. But what the heck is that monstrosity made of lichen! Why not a red kite, otter, or anything not a weird blob! I’ve been told by a local lady that the building costs £40,000 That is ridiculous! If you want to bring more people in, you need to spend the money more wisely maybe on a park for kids to bring families in, cafe etc. I fear that lichen thingy won’t bring anyone in. Sorry it is a lovely place with lovely walks but the new build doesn’t make me want to go there. Just the walks and scenery !

Two places to park and start the walks. Either just of the main road or up by the farmhouse. By the farmhouse are toilets and the chance to make you own hot drinks with an honesty box.

We followed the yellow walk down to the hide and along the river past the falls. Signage seemed ok even though others said it was poor.

The pathways were in a good condition even with all the weather that had been around only a bit muddy and wet in places.

The only downside was the lack of wildlife, will have to come back during another season.

If your in the area give it a visit.
