Didn't stay or play golf, just came in for a bite to eat in the afternoon. Many restaurants stop their lunch menu at 2-3 so we were pleasantly surprised that they were still serving. I had the salmon salad and my friend had the nachos, both were very delicious, well-portioned, and well-priced. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The view of the golf course was absolutely breathtaking... And our wait staff that day were lovely. Would definitely come again for food, and maybe one day to stay? :)

We spent the weekend at the Lakes Golf Resort in a two bedroom villa. The villa was beautifully decorated and well positioned on the course with great views. It was pretty quiet this time of year, which meant we had the course to ourselves for most of our game. Great golf course with some challenging narrow fairways.
My only small criticism would be that the kitchen was a little under stocked on utensils, with some basics missing like a chopping board, a sharp knife and an egg lifter, all utensils you might need for a weekend of self catering. Overall, very good accommodation and we would recommend to others. I should also mention there are no BBQ facilities in the villa, but we made do with a portable one we bought in Pauanui!

We went with friends (2 couples) and stayed in a 2 bedroom villa for a night. The villa was very well kept, with kitchen well equipped with everything. Beautiful surrounding and very relaxing. Was very quiet (which could change in peak season), as villas are right next to each other and can get noisy at a busy time.
There was everything available in the villa that one could possibly want (except for an intercom to get in touch with reception!... doesnt help when there is very poor cell phone coverage too).
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Being a normal weekend not at the peak of summer, the dining room wasn't busy at all. The staff catered to our special dietary requirements and managed to put together a lovely dish which wasn't even on the menu! Enjoyed our dining experience.

Definately recommend this place!!

Room tip: Ask for villas with sunshine in the backyard/ balcony

Our welcome was warm and check in was smooth and well organised. The Villa was spacious and comfortable with an excellent, well equipped kitchen. The resort was quiet so privacy wasn't a problem. At busier times this would definitely be an issue. Golf was excellent. Easy to book with a very friendly pro shop. Dinner at the club house was excellent and we were well looked after by the Argentinian bar manager (who, incidentally, was a great asset to the resort). We had to make a housekeeping observation to reception as the duvet cover wasn't clean. It was an observation rather than a complaint but it wasn't received well. This seems to be a common thread in other reviews so maybe this aspect of customer service should be reviewed and improved. We would definitely stay there again and hope that comments like ours are used to make the experience even better

On a recent tour of the Coromandel Peninsula, we were keen to enjoy some of the eastern side which we hadnt visited for some time. With limited options around Hahei, we decided to splash out a little more than usual and try 2 nights at Lakes Resort. At first glance - aside from the tiny parking, the villa was modern and inviting. But we were sadly lulled into the facade of luxury as opposed to the real thing. After reading tripadvisor comments we steered clear of the Resturant and catered for ourselves. Imagine the delight however of opening the oven to find a dirty grill pan left there from who knows when. Dont leave your groceries on the benches as the ants are waiting to strike en masse. The longer we stayed we learnt of other wonderful aspects of the property like EXTREMELY paperthin walls - eg the couple next door enjoying late night shower. Our shower was delightful in that it backed up to almost overflowing the base compartment with hairballs down the drainpipe no doubt. Someone prior's also left us a present in the form of their toothbrush left by the shower. Attention to detail by housekeeping very poor! And last but not least, what modern accomodation comes with no aircon, or at least a fan - we were well and truly baked in the top story bedrooms. Couldnt leave the windows open due to the mozzies. My husband enjoyed his round of golf, however it would be a one-time thing as we would not be coming back.
