Owner description: A full day tour (with commentary), around the remote but magnificent Northern Coromandel. Tours start from our base at 105 Wharf Road, Coromandel Town or we can pick you up from your accommodation. Our new, revamped route takes you to the scenic Kennedy Bay via Tokatea Lookout. Be wowed by the isolated villages of Tuateawa and Waikawau with amazing beaches and views over the Pacific Ocean. Take a break at Tangiaro Lodge nestled at the base of a bush clad valley renown for its growing population of our kiwi bird. The spectacular Coastal Walkway starts with its entrance at Stony Bay and leads you through 10kms of native bush, coastline and farmland. Refresh at Fletcher Bay before the equally as impressive journey home along the pohutukawa lined Coast Road. With seating for nine, we also specialise in private charters whether it be for corporate or team building events as well as wedding parties, outdoor clubs and fishing groups. Hike and Bike options also now available.

Barb was our guide and made the trip perfect. She knows a lot of the history and drives slow enough for you to enjoy the breath taking views. The hike is not for beginners, but if you take your time anyone else can do. The views during the entire hike are spectacular and the biggest issue is taking too long taking pictures. The first half of the hike is all up hill with a steep downhill to a beach and then a steep up hill. From then on it is a slow decent to your pick up point. I would not do in the rain. (I am near 60 and just above a beginner hiker) some spots would be extremely slippery. Also, when Barb offers you a trekking pole, take it! No matter the weather.

We are walkers and the motivation for booking this trip was so that we could take advantage of doing a linear walk without the worry of transport. That said some of the unsealed roads are a challenge and glad someone else had the responsibility for driving them. Narrow, twisty and need to constantly be vigilant for camper vans coming in the opposite direction! That said totally worth it. Stunning views on clear route with sufficient challenge. Thoroughly enjoyed the stop at Colville stores for real fruit ice cream! Highly recommended.

We booked Coromandel Discovery tour and had excellent trip in a comfortable van. Very glad we did not drive the rental car up the unsealed narrow windy road so we could sit back and enjoy the scenery as we past by. Michael was a great driver who shared the local history and a few funny stories along the way. We were driven to Fletcher bay where we started walk which was easy to intermediate. One section was quite steep and slippery after recent rain. Had a nice swim to cool us off at the end in Stoney Bay. Michael provided afternoon tea & cake at end which was lovely. Would highly recommend this trip.

Coromandel Discovery, would like to thank you for your comments, and hope that the remainder of your New Zealand trip is just as much fun and enjoyable.
To experience the Northern part of the Coromandel ,is a must, even if you do not wish to do the walk.
To just sit back and relax and leave the driving to us, so you can enjoy the scenery and many photo stops on the way.

Thank-you
Michael.

We used Coromandel Discovery tours to reach the North end of the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula and to do the Coastal Walkway. Our host was Warren, an excellent driver and guide, his local and personal insights on the journey really informed the trip, far better than the endless, rehearsed commentary one gets so often. You are dropped at Fletcher Bay, the start of the walkway then the bus heads off to the other end of the walk, Stoney Bay, 12kms away on foot but 2 hours plus by road. The walk itself is not easy, especially in hot weather. Lots of altitude change, rough terrain in places. Wear stout shoes and take a walking pole or stout stick, plenty of liquid and some food (there's a handy bench just beyond half way). But the views, the forest, the birdsong and the sense of achievement at the end repay your effort in spades. Some guide books put this in the Worlds' top 10 walks, and it is not hard to see why. The sense of being (almost) alone in a jungle is quite thrilling ! One final tip; as you leave the forest, DON'T head straight for the Stoney Bay car park; instead pull a sharp right, cross a small meadow, pull off your boots and soak your feet in a lovely, cool river. BLISS !

Just sit back and relax as Michael drives you from Coromandel Town to Fletcher Bay, gorgeous road side vistas and on this gravel road you need and want an experienced driver. Michael shares area history, fun facts and his passion. At the Stony Bay pick up you are greeted with coffee/tea and bickies and a stress free ride back to Coro Town. Magical day, scenery will stay with me for my life time.
