A great weekend getaway

Review of Seaspray Motel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Jan 2023
It was time for a quiet & peaceful break away following a stressful October/November and a refresh is what we got. If you are looking for glitz, glamour and nearby restaurants this is not the place for you, a peaceful & quiet waterfront experience is what you will get. It is located just 1.5 hours away from Auckland. The unit is spacious and well equipped. There are plenty of short walks and drives to be done. The towns of Thames & Coromandel have lots of interesting experiences to suit most needs.
Date of stay: November 2022
Room Tip: All rooms are seaside with views across the Firth of Thames

A great base for northern travel,, walking distance to city centre and tour base. Free parking, fuel , coffee and breakfast nearby. Rooms were spacious , clean and tidy. Staff were engaging. Rooms with baconys were great for drinks and platters

And location is about the highlight. Katherine and John extremely friendly and helpful and being right next to the water was marvellous. Unfortunately, all those previous posts tricked us into thinking it actually was clean and quite unique. The term "Retro" has been used often, however, I think the more appropriate term should be "old", "aged" or "outdated". Maybe we just struck the wrong room, but ours was definitely not "spotless" and could better be described as quite dirty. The bed was comfortable and carpet looked quite new, however, everything else in bad need of replacing and/or scrubbing.

Room tip: Ask to view the room before paying and booking

Greeted by hosts John and Catherine we were introduced to our unit - a 60's retro strle which we loved - the extra touches of table mats, coasters, and ample utensils to cook our meal, along with spolessly clean - would be up there with many others for this in our Pacifica/Australasia area. Ambience was superb and we enjoyed a place right on the coast - the sea , the sea life including Raymond the Stingray, a stunning pohutukawa to sit under in cool of evening - giving that real feel of our NZ coast and memories of holidays as a child. Most of all was a stunning sunset and view across to coast on other side of the Firth. Thanks so much John and Catherine. Definitely will be back to this haven of well being.

You will be lulled to sleep with waves lapping 5 meters away from your spacious motel room which is just perfect for one couple. I loved the simple no-fuss style and a step back to the 70's. Our room was beautifully clean, the bedroom and separate lounge simple and relaxing. We were greeted by the very friendly host Katherine who made us feel welcome, and I wish we could have stayed another night. Look at the website so you know what to expect. We did and its great value. We will come back. The gorgeous sunset while sipping my wine and looking at the water was stunning.

This is not the ritz..but it's homely and comfortable with owners who are friendly and helpful.
The sunsets are fabulous and you can fish off the back door step. I hope to go back one day! It's a wonderful area to visit.
