Hospitality? What hospitality?

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Aug 2016
We have always been good customers for the owner Imco Binnerts. When he was the chef at Excelsior in Amsterdam and after 1997 at his restaurants Bios in Alkmaar, Imko's in Ijmuiden and Vis&Co in Haarlem. And left good reviews here. After he opened this hotel and restaurant in Wijk aan Zee I decided to surprise my wife (a great fan of him) with a dinner for our anniversary and a room afterwards. At first they had no room and dinner without wine is...no dinner and without a room I would have had to drive back home after dinner. Two days later they told me by email that they had a cancellation and offered me a suite. Within 1 minute I booked the suite and a table for 2. Fortunately I did not tell my wife, because 20 minutes later they replied that the room had been taken via Bookings. Sorry, sir was all they could do. I think this is an appalling way to treat a loyal customer. If you offer a room and then don't keep it for 60 seconds....

We had a standard room so it was quite small. The room was very clean, but unfortunately there was no wi – fi in the room. Wijk ann Zee is a lovely small village so the hotel is close to the center and the beach. The parking spaces are quite limited at the hotel so we had to park in the town and then move the car in the afternoon. The breakfast was lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is well located in the village of Wijk aan Zee, at walking distance from the sea-shore.
We had dinner at the casual part of the restaurant.
Imko Binnerts, the owner of the establishment and well known seafood expert , serves a superb 3 course dinner at only 30 Euro per person.
Try the catch of the day as a main course and especially the terrine of duck liver and slow-cooked duck leg as a starter.
You will be surprised of the quality of food and the ambiance in the restaurant.

The hotel part of the villa has all the boutique characteristics of a quality small hotel. The rooms have some special names as well as the room numbers and they are all decorated differently. All the house is very clean and has a good location. It's very close to the center but also has the enough distance to be away from the noise. The best part of the hotel is the bistro and the restaurant. We stayed for two nights and had dinner for the second evening too after the first time since the food was just excellent. Our friends whom we met by chance at the time we were staying there also stayed at the hotel and they told us the same about the quality of the food. The restaurant has a very good chef and really deserves a big praise. Strongly recommend both for staying and dining.

We were greeted by the delightful owner of this charming property. All rooms are different and decorated in a unique style. Our bedroom (De Kardinaal) was a bit small but the bed was very comfortable. There was a well stocked mini bar and coffee making facilities. The breakfast offered a selection of breads, cakes, cold meats and cheese and we had a choice of scrambled egg, boiled egg, or omelette. There is a definite attention to detail, including in the plates, cups and saucers all in floral decor. The hotel also sells these, as well as other decorative objects, cushions and throws. Two small annoyances: there was no lift and we were on the second floor, we did not have a problem with this but elderly/unwell customers might, also the hotel brochure shows a delightful swimming pool but it seems to be undergoing repairs (not advertised). All in all a lovely, romantic stay and fairly close to Zandvoort and Amsterdam.

This is a very small hotel with few rooms that are all decoprated individually. Very nice!
Breakfast is very good and so is service.
The location is perfect: near the centre of beach village Wijk aan Zee, and very close to the great beach there.

Room tip: Very helpful room descriptions on hotel website. Useful to look at since rooms are so different. There is no elevator and the stairs are very steep. So would not recommend rooms upstairs to elderly or handicapped persons.
