Could have been cleaned better

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Aug 2021
I recently spent 1 night in the swimming pool suite. For 460 euros a night i felt the standards were low. When we went to our room, outside the door we noticed wine bottles and glasses from the previous guest. The room hadn't been clean properly, a big long black hair was on one of the two chairs. A pubic hair in the sink of the toilet.
The bed had stains ( see picture) The cupboards were battered, and the the lamp shade had marks on it. And I was not actively looking for imperfections but for the price I paid for this room, I expected better.
The jacuzzi it's self and the swimming pool were a great feature. However my boyfriend had issues sleeping due to the loud Aircon which you need because the heat of the pool. The Pool has lights on the walls, which you can't turn off so it illuminated the room.
Breakfast was room service where they bought us a selection, at the desk during check in we were asked what eggs we would like. The breakfast came on time, but the eggs were cold. There was no butter for the bread, and we received a lot of food that was wasted, we both agreed an actual menu where you say you want 1 roll, 2 pots of jam etc would have been better and less waste.
The restaurant was very nice, fast service friendly staff. However we felt the price for the room was to high for what you receive.
We will continue to stay at the Van Der Valks, but just not this type of room.

We had a two night stay here. Due to covid a lot of restrictions apply. But the Hotel manages to still give a good experience.

We had two times dinner and two times breakfast. The dinner was good, decent portions. Not cheap. But nog (overly) expensive either.

Breakfast has really slimmed down due to all the restrictions. No toaster, very limited supply of condiments. It is too bad but understandable. They still have quite a variety of breads though, which is nice. Still eggs cooked to order and they have pancakes etc.

Rooms are decent, maybe a bit dated but all in all nog too bad. Some noises from the outside can be heard very well, but not from inside the hotel.

Fitness, swimming pool and wellness are open.

All in all the experience was not too bad. We all understand the restrictions we have to live with.

Every time I'm on business trip in The Netherlands I stay in Van der Valk and I can't fault anything, clean, great service, good food, convenient location.... But. Single use paper cups in the rooms??! REALLY? Nowadays when there is so much talk about ditching single use wherever we can? Surely chains like that should lead the way and stop that. This was bugging me for a while and with every trip I hoped it changed, unfortunately not. C'mon Van der Valk! Surely guest will feel more at home when drinking from proper mugs without polluting!
I take 2 stars off because of that!

When checking out I was charged for breakfast over a period of two weeks.
Although I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, the receptionist was unwilling
to correct the invoice. It was not possible she said, because the billing was 'digital'.
She was not willing to check the daily breakfast attendance list.
The rooms are OK. However the mattress showed stains. The hotel has a certain
reputation.

Room tip: Check for bed-bugs. On checkout check the invoice for improper breakfast charges.

I spent two nights in this hotel recently, big, with a lot of positive things. Rooms are comfortable and quite big, big beds and comfortable, good to rest after a busy day.
Bathroom also big and well equipped
Young people working at the reception and in the restaurant, good service.
The restaurant is good, we had dinner both days, friday was all perfect, Saturday the hotel and restaurant was totally full of people and it took longer time.
Breakfast bufé súper, with a lot of things, made
Minute omelettes or eggs, fresh juice and fruits, and all the things you could want for a good breakfast.
just one thing made me being lost the two first time I went from my room to the lobby, if you are in the second floor like me, you have to go first to the first one, depending on which part of the second floor you have to take a different elevator, in my case was in front of room 141, and then to your room, so better if you ask for a room on the first floor, or maybe ground floor. A bit complicated until you have your way memorized.

Hotel Akersloot offers quiet and luxurious rooms, an impressive breakfast buffet and high-quality food in the restaurant.
The gym is free to use and has sufficient equipment (BUT the free weights are partially not labelled and only go up until 30kg), the indoor pool is nice and big.
Everything is very clean and the staff, especially in the restaurant, is really kind and helpful.
Could be more environmentally friendly though! (single-use plastic cups in the rooms and in the gym, towels got renewed even though we would have reused them, windows can't be opened, so AC has to be used, plastic packaging at the buffet etc...)
