Lovely zoo with lots of interesting animals. Spacious and modern, always fun for a nice stroll. When the grill is running they have pretty decent burgers.

Had a wonderful day exploring this zoo, plenty of parking close to the entrance which you pay for when you enter (i believe 7 euro) you also have to pay for a map - 1 euro.
The parents in law pre-purchased tickets online so we were able to avoid the queue and walk straight in.
Lots of sign posts to direct you to where the animals are located and you can follow the orange/red "Route - to all animals" sign so really no need to purchase a map, although it made a good keepsake.
The encloses are nice and big so looks like the animals have plenty of room to move around, plus they have lots of viewing areas to try and spot the sleeping animals and sections to view the animals when they go inside.
A lot of the bird enclosure you can walk through so watch out for bird poo, we had one very close encounter.
There is also an open range monkey enclosure which was fun, just watch out for those cheeky monkeys!
We thought it would only take a couple of hours but it was a full day of exploring.
There is an amazing play area for the kids (including big kids) in the dino section with a huge seating area to rest tired feet (self serve drinks only in this area), also a number of small play areas dotted along the way.
Loved all the little interactive sections through out the zoo as well.

Even the best Zoo's can feel a little depressing, but kudos to Gaia who have really endeavored to create a 'close encounter' type experience. The gardens are stunning; moats, elevated viewing platforms, very large enclosures you can walk around in where there is no barrier at all to vultures and monkeys , a tunnel to get into the wolf enclosure and loads of glass really add to your sense of being in nature. There is large indoor climbing frame type playground for any age.
