“Nice villa, great pool, fabulous setting, delightful owners”
Reviewed 23 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

The villa is located down narrow winding tracks with no other house in sight; steeply terraced hills behind and a flat coastal plain planted with citrus trees in front, with the (pleasant but unexciting) town of Avola and the sea visible in the distance. It was very hot when we were there, but the aircon units upstairs & down worked efficiently & relatively quietly. The resident cockerels made a bit of a racket from 6 AM onwards, but the fresh eggs we collected each morning made up for that. There is a pizza oven in a small building near the pool, which we managed to use with wood gathered from the surrounding orchards, and a well set up BBQ area. The Spitale family who own the property could not have been more friendly, kind and helpful. It is well placed for visits to Noto, an absolute jewel of Sicilian baroque with the added benefit of Caffe Sicilia, (which G Locatelli claims makes the best ice cream in the world). Syracuse is almost as close and has even more to see. Other notable Montalbano locations llike Modica and Ragusa are about an hour away. And by the time we left the resident cat & kitten were positively affectionate - always a bonus for soppy Brits
