This is a pretty beach with soft, clean sand and shallow, warm water. It has well-spaced umbrellas and sunbeds so you are not quite so on top of each other as is usually the case on Italian beaches in high season. The walk down through the pines from the parking is delightful and there is a free little bus - which gets very full and may not be worth it. The beach, bar/snackbar is run by a friendly crew who try but can get ever so busy. The fruit platter and the "insalato completo" are great and good value but avoid the pizza slices. refreshing white wine by the jug. AND there is NO MUSIC! the only downside is that there are only two loos which is just not enough so queues build up and it gets a bit unsavoury inside.
In August you will need to book ahead otherwise you may well not get a spot and it is definitely too hot to be umbrella-less. And the traffic can be grim - may be best to go and leave early as Otranto and surroundings seems to grind to a halt between about 1815 and 1915 in season.
