I stumbled upon this art museum by accident and so glad I did. It is attached to the tourist office. The ladies working spoke English and were so friendly and helpful. We are living in Fabriano for a month while my husband is working locally. I have been taking our girls to all the local museums and sights. The ladies working gave each of the girls a kid's worksheet to use in the museum- they loved it! There are some great old pieces of art housed here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is small but well laid out and is perfect for families with children! Highly recommend! My review is based on the local options- not to be compared to other larger art museums!

As it happens many times in Italy, the building housing an art gallery is also of interest - in this case it was a hospital for pilgrims and also an orphanage. The information and explanations given by the kind attendant Lucia were good starting points before walking through various exhibitions. A highlight is a painting featuring the first known depiction of Fabriano's town walls which was originally divided into two hamlets. The sculptures in wood are also worth mentioning. You can buy a single ticket or combine with the bicycle museum of old trades.

There's an impressive exhibition being held in the gallery at the moment (summer and autumn 2014) of art from Giotto to Gentile da Fabriano, with painted sculptures, illuminated books, work in gold, frescoes rescued from now ruined churches and paintings on wood by many different artists, some well known, some less so, some anonymous. The lovely, delicate, vividly alive frescoes by the 'Master of Campodonico', of whom I'd never heard, are a particular revelation.

Definitely worth making an effort for.

A team of young people stand ready to answer questions and offer assistance. There are free guided tours every morning and evening, and even individual guided tours (for which I think you pay a little) can be arranged. Call 892 234 (from inside Italy) or +39 0412719035 (from abroad) for information.

small but interesting collection of the historical art of Fabriano, in the central historic area of the town. The guide put a lot of effort into helping understand the history and art of Fabriano
