There's an impressive exhibition being held in the gallery at the moment (summer and autumn 2014) of art from Giotto to Gentile da Fabriano, with painted sculptures, illuminated books, work in gold, frescoes rescued from now ruined churches and paintings on wood by many different artists, some well known, some less so, some anonymous. The lovely, delicate, vividly alive frescoes by the 'Master of Campodonico', of whom I'd never heard, are a particular revelation.
Definitely worth making an effort for.
