I booked this hotel with the intention of having to work remotely one day, so I was looking for accommodation with strong wifi. The wifi offered 250mb free and a paid upgrade for unlimited (something like 40 or $50 per day), but ultimately I chose not to upgrade because the coverage of the signal and the quality/reliability of the Wifi was not good. I would have been quite disappointed had I paid and the experience was so poor.

With that said, the villa itself was a wonderful breath of fresh air. Spacious, I had a unit with a downstairs king-sized room with a patio, and an upstairs suite area complete with a balcony with a great view of Mt. John and partial view of the Lake and alps (from 406b). The suite was equipped with a DVD player and skyTV, however, Sky was pretty limited with no access to on-demand or a number of premium channels that I would expect are available for purchase. The kitchen was well-equipped to cook your own meals, complete with an espresso machine, stove, oven, microwave, two freezers and a fridge. All were in working order.

The bathroom was equipped with a large, deep luxury tub which was exceptionally nice, in addition to a spacious shower with a single showerhead. One nice touch that could have made the shower just a little nicer would be a shower head with additional options, such as massaging water and such.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were exceptional, offering some of the best sleep I've had in years. The blackout curtains made for a very peaceful sleep and the heavy, quality sheets and blankets made sleep very comfortable. There was quite a bit noise from neighbors shifting things around in the morning, so more sound proofing would also be a nice touch.

For luxury accommodation, I suggest that Peppers seriously consider including the wifi, improve coverage and reduce the packet loss and latency. Additionally, higher quality toilet paper would be another touch to separate the bathroom from more budget accommodations.

Wifi not withstanding, the area is perfect for getting out for the whole day and enjoying the beautiful nature around you. I had the pleasure of hiking 10km up mt. John to the observatory around the lake which offered spectacular views. I wish that the night I had booked for stargazing had been clear, because the dark sky reserve is not to be missed. With that said, there are a number of less expensive options in Tekapo that one could choose if you aren't going to be taking advantage of the villa amenities.

Kia ora Venture51055545073,

Thank you for your choosing Peppers Bluewater Resort.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback and share your experience with us.

We are pleased to know that you found your stay comfortable and enjoyed its entirety despite some issues with the wifi connection.

We appreciate your feedback surrounding the limited Wi-Fi. As your recent visit would have demonstrated we are in a relatively remote location as such we do not have the availability of ultra-fast for fibre broadband. Our alternative is a satellite-based solution that provides solid and stable bandwidths but is unfortunately limited. Whilst we would ultimately prefer to provide complimentary Wi-Fi to all guests to meet expectations we do need to consider the 300+ guests we have on site daily and the relevant usage that would invite, assuming an unmetered allocation was provided.

We have in fact trialled this but found that the integrity of the network suffered and all users were impacted hence the ‘fence’ on data, we have found this is a the best way to preserve the overall integrity of the network for all users so that those requiring greater use of the network are guaranteed the best possible allocation and speeds whilst those not requiring as much are less likely to contribute to any unnecessary use.

Saying all of that, the challenge for our property is to continually improve our service and I am happy to advise that very recently we have implemented the Mantra+ loyalty program. This new programme provides members with increased and complimentary Wi-Fi allocations of 1GB per day. The Mantra group has over 125 properties across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and most recently Hawaii and there are a number of benefits beyond the Wi-Fi allocation, so I strongly recommend signing up at no cost.

So apologies from the Bluewater team that your internet expectations were not met and I hope the above goes at least a little way to help explain the background to our current systems. Although we are not expecting the very expensive infrastructure for the town to be in place soon, it is something as a member of the Tekapo business community that we are constantly pushing for and hope to improvements sooner rather than later.

Thank you, once again, for your stay with us and we hope that you will consider our hotel upon your next visit to the majestic Mackenzie.

Kind regards,
Gail

This was the most expensive and by a long way the worst accommodation we had in NZ. We booked an upgraded room with lake view and private balcony. There was a view, but very restricted and the balcony was shared with the room next door. The room seemed to be part of a villa section and the noise of what seemed to be someone using a washing machine next door dominated the first two hours of our stay. The room was badly designed and usable space was limited. Not enough space for 2 suitcases without having one on the floor where you could trip over it. The car park was quite a way from the room down a poorly maintained sloping path. The site was large and rambling and our room was a long way from reception and the restaurant, which wasn't fun in the rain. The buffet breakfast was very poor quality featuring sawdust like muesli and sausages that made me feel sick even though I only ate half of one. We were just glad that we were only here for one night. Since we were only on a one night stay we didn't bother asking for a room change, and didn't feel confident that anything better would be offered in any case. Our worst memory of a great trip to NZ and simply not worth the money we paid.

Kia ora Bigjake33,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback.

It is disappointing to know that your stay did not meet expectations.

I take note that you were upgraded to one of our deluxe lake view rooms where most of our guests are happy with the view that these units have. Our apologies if we failed to satisfy you in this regard.

Before arriving at the hotel and at the time of booking, we usually have a number of additional room types available which present different options for travellers and would encourage you to select an alternate room type should you be considering a return to Peppers Bluewater.

In regards to your feedback about the poor quality of food that was served during breakfast, we apologise if we were unable to satisfy your appetite. We appreciate your feedback as we are continually trying to improve the variety and quality of food items that we offer to our guests. It was certainly not of our usual standard and we will ensure that your feedback will be passed on to our Food and Beverage department.

It is just sad to know that these concerns were not shared with our team during your stay as I have a full trust that they would have addressed these matters, in every way possible, with the best of their abilities.

Once again, our apologies for not meeting your expectations and we hope that these experience will not prevent you from using the Peppers brand again in the future.

Kind regards,
Gail

Great view, hearty hospitality, beautifully designed and maintained rooms/villas with everything you need and a sumptuous breakfast. We went for star gazing but couldn’t see any stars because it rained. But we enjoyed the lake view villa and to top it all, we woke up to see it snow outside the next morning. those beautiful soft pancakes with coffee and snow view made our stay memorable. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Will choose this property again when we visit Tekapo next time.

The two bedroom family suite is jaw dropping!!!
You must stay here with a group or family!
Super clean, and so glad we stayed here.

The highlights were the private balcony, the gas fire, heat pumps in the bedrooms, a fully functional kitchen with dishwasher, very clean oven, the tv with full Sky access,
the washing machine/ dryer was so helpful for us as we had washing to do and they provided laundry detergent, and a drying rack for delicates.

The Large dining table two lounges, and the spaciousness was absolutely perfect!

Having the supermarket and shops close by meant we could choose to cook fresh ourselves or dine in at some of the local restaurants.

Great views of mountains and lake!!
