Had lowered my expectation before arriving from looking at the past reviews but I must honestly say it was not so bad. The hotel has aged but the room assigned to me was satisfactory. It was pretty spacious and clean. The toilet was of a good size and most importantly, it was clean. Location of the the hotel is excellent with Lake Tekapo at your doorstep. Service rendered by the front desk was commendable and prompt. Plenty of parking if you are driving.

Okay, it isn't a five star establishment. However, we found the room nearest the lake had a great view and it was clean and relatively comfortable. Bed wouldn't be so great for sleeping with a partner, but I had a great night sleep. So here's what you do get which is great. 1, fabulous location. 2, It's right next door to a great Japanese restaurant- you can't miss it. 3, breakfast was hearty and plentiful- eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, coffee, juice, fruit and yogurt. I'd come back here - even with my wife!

We stayed at the Godley last night and can’t say we were impressed. The room was nothing like the pictures. Most of the decor is the same as it was when it was built many years ago. Carpets and bathroom flooring have been replaced but the place in general is worn and old. It calls itself a hotel yet it really is a motel. The room has few amenities: no wine glasses, no information on the area, etc. It was the worst place we have ever stayed in NZ. Give it a big miss

This was a last minute trip so the old saying beggars can’t be choosers was applied! I read the reviews and thought ‘how bad can it be’? Ok, so there is a new section (10-20 years old) and an old section that is nearer the lake. The new section is in MUCH better condition than the old. We were in 208 which is downstairs facing the road. We slept well, it was warm, clean and quiet and in a great location.

The great location, the cheap Tarif and the pleasant staff cannot redeem this delapidated complex. It is past its use by date. The paint is peeling, the carpets are thread bare and disgustingly stained, the bathroom, just terrible!
Stay there if you must, but better still...don’t!
