Ate here for the buffet breakfast, was very good. Staff did their best to keep the food replenished but both days the restaurant was very busy, Good selection to choose from and lovely view.

We were staying on site and had the Entertainment Book app on the phone (so an immediate discount) so decided to dine here.

The staff were fairly good but service was incredibly slow for the dessert, felt like it was forgotten.

My steak was well cooked, but my wife was disappointed with her pork belly which was dry.

I suggest you also look at the beer list. So many good NZ craft beers available at the better restaurants but not at Rakinui.

Over all it looked promising but disappointed.

Booked for a meal when we made the hotel booking to celebrate our anniversary and not "drink and drive"!! We knew it would be pricey as advertised as a "fine dining" restaurant but it was an occasion to celebrate and we found the prices were reasonable for that type of dining. Staff were friendly and pleasant but with limited knowledge of English. However it was not a problem and meal order was completed perfectly! We chose mains that included vegetables so as not to order sides!! The pork was slightly overlooked but ok and the verges were lovely. Meal size was ok for us as we already had our eye on the dessert menu!! The chocolate fondant was delicious and gooey and we were told that there would be a 15 minute wait for it but not a problem. We had time to let our mains settle and finish our wine! The marbled ginger rhubarb cheesecake was great as well. Wine by the glass at $9 was about usual price at home. Port and Baileys for afters! ( Baileys served in a large tumbler with just a shot sized amount in the bottom! ) Total for 2 wines, 2 mains, 2 desserts, baileys and port - $148

We checked in late and seeing as all other restaurants around the village were closing we ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Rakinui. Service from concierge and the waiters was very friendly, lovely waiters. The prices were quite expensive which we expected being a small town, plus everything in NZ is expensive in general compared to home. Ordered the pork cutlet with roasted seasonal vegetables, caramelised apple and kumara mash. Added sides of beer battered fries and steamed seasonal vegies. Took about 15 minutes to come out, very small portion considering I thought it would be a full cutlet like I'm used to buying back home. It was more like a lamb rack, with two of the bone joints, so it was a very small portion of pork plus it was very well done, tough and chewy. Gravy squiggled around the plate was tasty, very glad we ordered extra vegies as a side because you only get 1 brussel sprout, half a carrot and 3 cauliflower florets and 4 green beans with about 3 tablespoons of kumara puree, if that. Chips were good as far as chips goes, and the seasonal vegies weren't overcooked and delicious tossed in a little knob of butter. All in all, a dinner for two with no drinks at all and two sides cost $83NZD if you include the 2% credit card fee. Wouldn't eat there again unless the rest of the town was closed or there was a storm and I couldn't be bothered walking across the road.

Rakinui situated in a beautiful location, the staff was very friendly but the food was pretty average for the price you pay. Portions are very small so we had to order an additional side. Very pricey not very impressed but the staff made the difference. I had the rack of lamb and only had x 2 pieces on my plate which half of that was fat hopefully the chef takes note of this as it's not cheap.
