Nicely located new hotel with friendly staff
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Jan 2024via mobile
The new hotel is slightly elevated above the centre of Lake Tekapo in a new part of the village, the centre with its restaurants is a pleasant short walk away. The view from the hotel to the famous lake and the marvellous mountain scenery is fantastic. The path to the lake and the Chapel of the Good Shepherd is a pleasant distance away. We recommend visiting the chapel in the evening or later in the afternoon as there are fewer other tourists
There is ample parking on the hotel grounds.
The reception and service at reception are attentive and very friendly.
Our flat was spacious and clean. The bathroom was extremely spacious. The most spacious of our trip so far. Of the two bedrooms, one faced the lake, one was at the back, unfortunately without daylight, but with sufficient artificial light and a pleasant ventilation system that made it comfortable to sleep in. We would find it helpful if the fact was mentioned in the description of the flat that one of the two rooms was without daylight.
The breakfast was basic, all made with pre-made products. We found this a little disappointing. We would categorise the breakfast room as cramped and not in keeping with the hotel's price range. We enjoyed breakfast in the room, which was an ideal option for the three of us. The service was very friendly. And it can be reordered at any time.
If we compare this hotel with previous stays in Lake Tekapo, it is a good option for an overnight stay (with the outlined few negative points).

Lovely hotel with a great view of the lake. Convenient location for anyone traveling that has a hire car. Not too far of a walk for those with young legs to the main street. The sky light was a cool addition. Would definitely stay at again and recommend to anyone traveling through.

Rooms are clean and comfortable with the breakfast being basic with hot food cooked according to your order. We travelled in a large group and had both the larger rooms on ground floor and room on top floor with moon roof. The moon roof is frankly not much of a help and it is better to step out to view the stars and I would recommend going for the larger room on ground floor as views are similar and one can avoid taking the luggage up to first floor without a lift. We celebrated my wifes birthday for whic the hotel helped decorate the room.

A great hotel in a good location - warm clean and close to town.

The rooms were good condition, with the normal wear and tear on walls from other guests. The shower and room were clean with no smells or odd noises, and everything just worked well.

The location is close to town - about a 5 min walk down - and you are not bothered by road noise.

Breakfast was fine, and we specified precisely what we were looking for ahead of time, meaning it turned up correct on time and precise the next day.

Room tip: Perhaps look for deals, we used booking.com and got a good nightly rate

We were desapointed by the room. We were 4 and we booked a room with 2 rooms : one of them was blind (no window). Some devices in the kitchen didn’t worked well.
And in the morning, the breakfast should be available at 8:00 but we have too wait because there is a problem with the chef.
The woman at the front desk did her best to be helpful.

This hotel has a fantastic location from which you can enjoy views of Lake Tekapo. The highlight is the Skylight that you can enjoy from your room to see a sky full of stars (which we were fortunate to see on our one night or stay). I agree with many of the other reviewers on the hotel being overpriced for what they offer - this isn’t a ‘Boutique Hotel’ in the sense that you may have seen in other parts of the world. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is basic. The owners who run the place are friendly and helpful.

Tip: this hotel is located around 700m from the town center and up a hill. There’s zero public transport/taxi service in Tekapo. You’ll have to drag your bags uphill to the hotel yourself. Book this hotel only if you’re travelling light and able to haul luggage yourself. We requested the owner to drop us to the town center when we checked out and he was kind enough to do so. The hotel could win more customers by including a complimentary pick up and drop for all.

In summary - a spectacular location for a view of Tekapo, but could come prices cheaper.

Room tip: Located up an incline road from town. Book only if you can haul luggage yourself. There is no public transport or taxis in Tekapo.
