Disappointed

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Apr 2024
Was expecting a cute ‘shed’ nestled in a cottage garden. However It was tucked in behind the house with no pleasant garden view as suggested on the website images- See photos below. This could be remedied by planting in front of the ugly back wall of the house. A bit shabby and not chic. Over priced for what it is. A group of people came past and lingered outside with the host while we were there - we felt this was an invasion of our privacy. Rats or something rumbled in the ceiling each night. Some aspects of the cottage were ok - the host was friendly but gave no name, bed is small but comfortable, shower small too but worked well. Good to have a fridge and microwave (not noted in blurb) but very tiny bench. Had to ask for cutlery and a flatter pillow which were promptly provided. But overall a disappointing stay.
Date of stay: April 2024
Room Tip: Probably avoid the Potting Shed - perhaps the other cottages have a better outlook.

This review is only for the cottage called "The Potting Shed". I hope the other cottages are a lot better. The Potting Shed should not be advertised as tourist accommodation. It is barely suitable for emergency accommodation. There was a double light on the wall and a bedside lamp on one side of the bed. Nothing on the other side and no power point either, so you couldn't move the lamp over. There is only room for 1 suitcase on a table, meaning you couldn't use the table for its intended purpose. The other suitcase had to go on the couch so you couldn't use that either. (No floor space for the suitcases). So the only place to sit was on the very small double bed. Bit awkward for breakfast. The only sink is in the tiny bathroom, and you couldn't get the electric kettle/jug under the tap to fill it. There were 4 kitchen appliances plugged into ONE power board: toaster, kettle, fridge and microwave. This cabin, if you can call it that, was very overpriced. Also, you couldn't park your car at the door but at the end of a long path.

Room tip: Do not book The Potting Shed

Wonderful place to stay, less than five minutes walk to the lake and equally close to the town centre with shops and restaurants.
Owners were very helpful and friendly.
We stayed in a single bedroom Cottage, which was great.
Cottages were very well equipped. Added free laundry facility was a great boon for us.

Well done Lake Tekapo Cottages. Stayed with my husband and my son and his partner. It had absolutely everything we needed. The proprietor was friendly and informative. Shower pressure was off the scale and the water was hot. Super comfortable bed and the cottage was clean and well presented. Easy walk to town centre. Would absolutely stay again and highly recommend to others.

The cottages are off a quiet street and very close to the church/dog Statue and swingbridge to town.
Each cottage is individual and has mountain views. We stayed in the Tui Studio cottage which had everything we needed. Quiet location, Nice Queen bed, ensuite bathroom with awesome shower pressure, Milk,tea/coffee provided. A/C and free wifi.
Parking is directly out front. Owner very friendly and helpful.
Would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Lake Tekapo.

Room tip: We stayed at the cheapest cottage and it has evrything we needed no need to pay more if available.

Perfect place to stay! Only steps away from the Good Shepherd church and walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. Steve the owner is easy going, super nice and helpful if you have any questions. I stayed in the honeymoon suite, the place is simple but it was very comfortable, fully equipped if you plan on making a few meals and very quiet. I loved waking up the the birds singing. I enjoyed my stay at the cottage. The only thing I missed was that I couldn't set up Netflix on the TV, even on vacation i like a good movie in the evening.
