Staff so helpful and friendly, flight was absolutely fantastic. Views were breathtaking. Do the grand traverse, it's worth it as you won't see the same areas ever if you just travel by road. It would depend on the time/season as to how much notice is needed to be able to get a seat. They do have a number of planes and pilots though.

What an amazing experience! It was unplanned & something I never thought I would do due to being a little scared of tiny small planes however the weather was perfect & somehow I came around which made my husband very very happy, his dream came true!
Rob the pilot was fantastic, aware of my fear he reassured me all would be okay & even though there was a little breeze up there it all went as smooth as possible. An unforgettable experience, highly recommend this adventure with Air Safaris in Lake Tekapo

Air Safari were very professional, very friendly, and gave really good service. They actually advised us to change our flight time to make the best of perfect flying conditions, and they were right. We had sunny weather with perfect visibility over the mountains. Awesome views! Tim the pilot made sure that everyone got good views and photos of Mt Cook. The next morning when we had booked for was cloudy and grey, and we would not have flown. I would definitely recommend this grand traverse.

We booked the Grand Traverse flight (Tekapo) for the morning session in advance. Upon arrival, the weather was very good according to my observation. However, they told us the sky near Fox and Franz Josef Glacier was very cloudy, and therefore, we might not be possible to have a scenic flight over there. They suggested to have more time flying over the area near the Lake Tekapo instead. They fully explained about the change and the details about the route and let us made the choice. We could cancel the flight without costs. Excellent. We accepted their proposal and had a very great scenic flight finally. The pilot is very nice and I agreed that it is a flight of a lifetime which you should not miss when you visit Tekapo. After the flight, they even gave us a discount on their regular price for the missing part of the scenic flight even the flight time is the same. I highly recommend this scenic flight to other visitors.

Hi Henry,

Thanks for your lovely review!

We're so sorry we couldn't give you a full Grand Traverse flight experience during your stay in Tekapo but it's great to hear that you still enjoyed the views over the Mackenzie and the other features, as well as your discount.

We hope you still had a great time in Lake Tekapo and a safe trip home.

Many thanks,

The Air Safaris Team

Grand traverse fromTekapo to Franz Josef and return. the whole flight exceeded my expectations. We meandered up Lake Tekapo to the Cass valley, then over to the Murchison and Tasman glaciers, where we saw 9 glacier skiers! We then went down the Franz Josef glacier from side to side down the valley and landed at Franz Josef airport. Then we changed aircraft, over the Cook and Fox rivers, and up the Fox glacier valley in the same manner as going down the Franz. Over the snowfields, over and beside various peaks, including Mt Tasman and Aoraki, and then over what I think is the Copeland Pass to the Hooker and Mueller glaciers. Over the Ball pass? to the lower Tasman glacier. Then various smaller mountains and valleys, Lake Tekapo and Mt John and home. Many highlights. Watching back country sheep station roads and tracks going surprising distances up river valleys and mountains. Seeing a helicopter far below us. Getting close to the mountains. Landing on the West Coast, about 10 degrees warmer than Tekapo. Checking out the Hermitage, where we had stayed. The skiers. Seeing the whole climate warming thing as shown by the glaciers' retreating. The lakes.
Bring a camera, for highlights and reminders, not to try to get everything! Bring your jacket, and sensible clothing, as plane is okay, but not overheated!
Our trip was an add on to a wedding visit to the Hermitage and very much a highlight of the whole trip.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for sharing such a detailed review! It sounds like you were a rather lucky passenger on one of our trips to our West Coast base to swap an aircraft, what a bonus!

We are pleased you enjoyed the flight and took so many highlights away with you!

Great tips about the camera use as to make the most of it and bringing a jacket, its always better to have one and not need it as it does sometimes get a little cool up there; we hope we kept you warm enough though!

Thanks again and we hope you had a safe trip home.

Kind regards,

The Air Safaris Team
