+ Spacious and comfortable room with fridge, hairdryer and air-conditioning
+ At the morning the room was full of sunlight (very nice!) but if you need you can close the jalousie
+ Good and various breakfast (sweet and salty) which you can have in the breakfast room or on the nice terrase
+ Reception 24 hours
+ Wi-Fi worked good but every time we had to registered
+ Free public parking near the hotel, but if you will arrive too late you should park about 100-200 meters far from the hotel (always free).
+ Very good balance quality/price (54 euro per night in the beginning of september)

- The biggest discomfort is the upper fixed shower, I had to wash my long hair or put the shower cap which doesn’t protect 100%
- Bathroom was a little bit small
- There wasn’t enough light in the room at the evening, only one socket near the door (so we had to use the fridge’s socket in the room)
- Our room was faced to the road and there wasn’t good noise isolation
- I didn't like pillows (too thin) but it's only my opinion
- The hotel didn’t inform us about city-tax (2 euro per person per night) even when we asked to reconfirm our booking some days before arrival. At the check-out they asked us to pay the city-tax but with the help of email-reconfirmation we didn’t pay it.
- The electronic key didn’t work, but our room wasn’t changed and we had to ask receptionist or chambermaid to open our door every time when we needed it.

Everyone who wants to go to Tuscany should think about this hotel. It's near the train station in Poggibonsi and all 3: Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are relatively close to this small town. The staff is very nice, hotel looks very good from both inside and outside, rooms are good and clean and it's ideal for someone who wants to stay out of the city, enjoying the Tuscan countryside.

I slept there because accomodations near San Gimigiano were very expensive. the hotel is average, the staff very friendly. City is not very impressive, you need to investigate hard to find somewhere to dinner. It is a good place for sleep while travelling in Tuscany, as we were coming from Chianti and was located on the right place. They need to imporve the breakfast.

I spent one night one week ago (October 2016) in this hotel. It is a good option at a very reasonable price. Staff is very friendly and full of attention. Breakfast is ok with quite a decent selection of things.
Only thing - personal - please remove that very very cheap curtain from the toilette. It is sooo 70s. It reminds me when in my childhood I was going to Adriatic coast holiday.

My wife had two falls whilst on holiday in Pogginbonsi, resulting in hospitalisation and replacement hip surgery. The local hospital was excellent, but on discharge, we needed a hotel for convalescing and preparing for the trip back to the UK.
The Alcide was recommended and it excelled in every way. Although at the height of the season, we were found a room that would work for us and the hotel is wheelchair-friendly. The business has been run by the same family for over 150 years. The hotel is not new and does not have any leisure facilities, but it does have amenities far in excess of its 3 star rating. It is very clean and efficiently run. There is a renowned restaurant specialising in fish and seafood. The staff are very friendly, well trained and were very supportive of our special needs.
I cannot thank and praise the hotel enough. We shall return in happier times.
