This is our 3rd stay in 3 years at Grand Relais Dei Nuraghi, each year has been a different room, so we are quite qualified to comment (in fact one year we brought some relatives, so we've actually experienced 4 different rooms in our time here).
This hotel is at the end of a road, with VERY LITTLE passing traffic, if you are looking for a hotel, with lots of amenities on site or even lots of night time entertainment, you will sorely disappointed, the main activity is to do nothing and soak up the marvellous setting and wonderful climate.
From the minute you arrive, from front desk, through to cleaners, you are made to feel special (how a previous reviewer can claim otherwise, from my experiences, I find staggering).
The food on half board is very, very good .....breakfast is eat as much as you like buffet, with a huge selection, every dietary preference appears catered for .... Dinner is 5 courses, mainly sourced it appears from local suppliers ....
The setting for the restaurant is overlooking a quite stunning view of the coastline and waters of Sardinia, a jaw dropping experience.
Just below the restaurant is a decent sized and VERY CLEAN swimming pool, in 3 years, I have never seen more than 5 people in it at any one time, that is FACT.
There are a choice of about 4 types of room, we've experienced every one, from basic through to villa with private pool, the decor in the main is good, but it would be churlish not to admit that some of the bathrooms can be a bit small e.g.Room 201 is a villa with a pool but the bathroom is quite small in relation to the rest of the villa, this year we stayed in Room 206, again villa with a pool but the bathroom is HUGE, I suppose it's a matter of preference, we spend no more than 10 minutes in our bathroom each day, and size of bathroom is not an issue for us like it appears for other guests.
The local village is about a 1200 yard walk or .75 of mile, you walk up, down and then up again to get there, first thing in the morning and after dinner, no major issue but at the height of the midday sun, probably not much fun.
The hotel also has its own PRIVATE beach, less than 200 yards from the hotel, we in 3 years have been about twice, as we rarely have found the need to visit but there are plenty of sun loungers and a small bar.
We are already looking to book Summer of 2019, from the ease of the short flight, the private taxi to the hotel and everything written above, we think this is awesome holiday destination.
Kuoni holidays are NOT cheap though, so do not be surprised at what you have to pay for a slice of tranquility.

Room Tip: If you want a villa with a pool, 206 is preferred option but the other two are not far behind.

Stayed for a week at this hotel, staff were lovely. If we hadn't hired a car I would have been bored out of my mind. We had a junior suite with terrace. The room leaks when raining, plaster falling from walls, ants everywhere and was bitten as were other guests. I was unable to use the pool as it was in need of a good clean, full of dead insects. Definitely not worth what I paid. Hotel was under going a refurbishment so alot of noise which we should have been informed about. The walk into town is not easy at all in hot weather. Very disappointed.

Dear lhopper76,

We thank you for sharing your experience with us, even if unfortunately some aspects did not leave you with a positive impression... Your opinion is important and helps us to maintain a high standard and excellence of service.

We thank you for the praise of our staff, who are always available and attentive to the needs of our guests.

However, we would also like to apologise for failing to meet all your expectations and for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

This winter the hotel has been completely renovated and unfortunately something completely unusual in Sardinia happened, it was a very rainy and humid season which slowed down the hotel renovation work considerably and did not allow the dye of the paint to dry completely at the beginning of the season.

Fortunately, everything has been solved and the hotel, as you can see from the subsequent reviews, is now absolutely in order.

We regret that you weren’t able to appreciate the wonderful location of the hotel, 5 minutes walk from 3 wonderful coves and 700m from the lively square of Baja Sardinia, reached by a large illuminated path.

In addition, our concierge are always ready to recommend the best trips by land and sea to discover the corners of paradise in northern Sardinia

We hope to welcome you back as our guests in order to have the opportunity to leave you with a wonderful memory of our hotel.

Yours sincerely,
Giulia Vizilio

There is no doubt that this hotel is ideally situated, with beautiful views across the water from hotel lounge/bar and restaurant, with lovely breakfasts and four-course evening dinners for those who stay half-board, as well as helpful, friendly staff who bend over backwards; the staff, from your arrival to departure, make you feel that you are doing them a favour by staying in their hotel and eating in their restaurant etc. The pool is lovely and the private beach very tranquil and peaceful. Their claim to 4.5 stars in this respect is correct. The main hotel area is perfect. The let-down for us (and where 4.5* seems very wrong) was the junior suite we booked for 7 nights. Our initial impression and feeling on being shown into our accommodation was one of disappointment. Our suite was a large room, rather tired and jaded and we immediately noticed the very bad state of the ceiling. We had flakes of plaster constantly descending upon us across the whole room. We would awake in the mornings to a floor covered in white flakes; walking barefoot was unpleasant. My husband suffers with asthma and by the third night he suffered an attack which we attributed to the particles of plaster and dust filling the room (the idea of the vacation was to enjoy fresh air). We were loathe to complain but felt we had no choice. The staff were excellent and offered to move us to another suite which was certainly better insofar as the ceiling was 'normal'. But we then had the tiniest of bathrooms with hardly any space to stand between washbasin and other sanitary ware; in fact in both junior suites the loo suites were very discoloured and not very pleasant. The mirror light in the rather dark bathroom was not working and there were no other mirrors to use; fortunately we had a small fold-up one with us.

We had booked the vacation through Kuoni and to be honest we had expected better accommodation from this holiday company. We never saw the Rep at all while we noticed the Tui Rep visiting several times. Consequently, while we enjoyed the week's vacation we have very mixed feelings; it was a very expensive week and we had higher expectations of our junior suite but the location and food were both great. Thus the hotel is 4.5* in the main hotel, but 3* for the rooms they provide.

In talking to other guests, it seems the ceiling problem we experienced was bad, but others also had flakes of plaster falling, only to a lesser extent. It appears that the flat roofs of the Nuraghi style rooms (attractive stone on the outside) seem to have presented the hotel with a major damp problem and until they sort this, we would feel unable to recommend this hotel to friends or relatives despite the excellent staff, food and location.

We were moved from junior suite 212 to 210 which provided us with a large garden and terrace and well equipped sunny room. The restaurant provided good food and a wide selection with an attentive waiting staff. The pool and grounds were maintained to an immaculate standard and the small beach delightful. We were particularly taken by the reception staff who could not do enough for us. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday this is the place for you.

Room Tip: some junior suites are better than others

We are leaving this beautiful hotel today and do not want to go !!! Can not recommend this hotel enough and all the staff here are so attentive and welcoming.

We came here with our 15 year old daughter and stayed in a Garden Villa. The room was big enough for the 3 of us and we had a beautiful terrace and garden. You can hear the noise from Phi beach at night but only outside and once in the room you can’t hear it at all. My only complaint would be that the internal walls seem thin and you can hear the noises and talking from the next villa. We had people who liked to get up at 6.30am and were showering and talking which was a little disturbing that early !!!! It wasn’t a major problem.

We are in the restaurant twice and had lunch by the pool. The food is excellent as is the service you receive from the restaurant and bar staff.

We used the hotels beach and that is so peaceful and has a small snack bar.

We walked into the local village a few times where there are more restaurants and a large beach which is really nice. Loved the restaurant called Foodie !!!!! Phi beach is worth a visit too, quite expensive but the restaurant is wonderful.

Just a wonderful week of peace and quiet, we really enjoyed it.
