We decided to go on the Due Golfi train tour after it was recommended by friends. We booked the tour directly through the official tour website and asked if it would be possible to get transport from our hotel in central Sorrento. A reply was received within an hour and we were told that they could book a taxi for us at an extra cost. We also found the bus route to the starting point, but this would take twice as long, and the cost wasn’t much different. It made sense to accept the offer for the taxi.

The taxi turned up early and picked us up from outside the hotel. We were then dropped off right at the starting point for the train tour. We then paid for both the train and the taxi together with the train driver before we set off.

The tour took us around some amazing Italian countryside with some beautiful views. At various points on the tour, the guide pointed out interesting places and spoke about the history, culture, and geography of the area. In addition to this there were various stops to explore and taste local produce. The tour took a total of three hours, starting from 10:00.

One of the stops was at a monastery called il Deserto. From here there were amazing views over the bay of Sorrento and bay of Naples. In addition to these it was also possible to see various mountains and Mount Vesuvius. After admiring the view, we were guided up a tower in the monastery to a viewing platform with panoramic views of the entire peninsula. From here some landmarks were pointed out to us and we were told a bit more history about the building.

There were two stops on the tour where we were given the opportunity of taste local food. The first tasting stop was at a limoncello factory. Here we were told about the ways that the lemons are grown and the different ways that limoncello is made in different factories. During the talk, various types of limoncello and other drinks were available for tasting. Afterwards we could look around the factory shop and were able to buy various drinks and chocolates, although there were no pressures to purchase anything.

The second tasting stop was at a small shop near Villa Angelina. Just before this stop we were taken to another viewing platform with views of the coastline. At the shop there were various things available to taste. This included locally produced bread, olive oil, chocolates, and buffalo mozzarella. All of which was also available to purchase. It’s hard to leave without buying anything. It’s all so tempting!

Overall, worth going on this tour if you are staying in the area. I would definitely come back if I ever back here in the future!

Went on this 3 hour trip not expecting much and ending up having a lovely morning out.
We covered ? 25 km on the little train with its enthusiastic driver giving us commentaries on route. We visited the highest point in the area - a climb of around 80 steps but optional and still a good view to be had if you don’t fancy the stairs. Then off to a local limoncello producer to hear about how it is produced and taste the goods - no hard selling involved. Finally we chugged around the winding lanes to a hotel to sample more limoncello, lemon sweets, marmalade, honey and mozzarella again with no pressure to buy.
Lovely views of countryside along the way

the driver is so happy and friendly and comical . we all had a great half day with him. i wanted it to be a full day! he showed us some amazing views from the top of the highest monastery and from a lovely wedding venue. we tasted limoncelli and bruschetta and marmalade and chocolates. we could buy souvenirs if we wanted to do so but no pressure at all. we had lots of information about how the farm grew the lemons and made the limoncello. then we met a mini coach which took us back to the town centre, a fabulous little trip(even though we had no legroom as we were sat on the wheel area-it didnt matter )i definately recommend this trip- a bargain-30 euros.

What a lovely way to spend a morning. We booked this trip through our hotel as I tried on line and it kept saying none available. The driver is very amusing and has lots of information about the places visited. He comes with you to the top of the monastery 85 steps up but what a beautiful view from the top. The limoncello factory with samples is interesting with no pressure to buy although we did . The limoncello with coffee is so good. The total trip is about 25 kilometres with beautiful views and lots of interesting places to visit . A great morning and very good value at 20 euros.
