“Perfect coastal villa for a relaxing vacation.”
Reviewed 26 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Situated south of both Agropoli and Paestum, 15 and 20 minutes by car, respectively, Santa Maria di Castellabate is a town no one touring the eastern coast south of Salerno should miss. On the hill opposite the town, across SS267 is The Villa Elaia. The villa includes several units of various sizes, housing from two to eight or nine people. It is a very comfortable, clean and well-maintained establishment and the proprietor, Alphonso Cianfrone is most accommodating. What makes this the perfect place for couples, and families are the wonderful views from the upper level units, and the quiet serenity of the area. From the terraces of our unit Cerasella, we overlooked the city and the sea, and had many breathtaking sunsets. A roll-down awning allows one to decrease the amount of sun obtained during the day, however, in the later afternoon, the sun directly shines onto the terrace. Although it can be warm in the later summer months, there is a breeze, which makes it most comfort. The Units are nicely decorated, and are supplied with enough dinnerware and cookware to accommodate the number of people staying in each unit. The sizes of the terraces allow ample space, correlating to the size of the unit. Each terrace is equipped with a barbeque grill, lounge chairs, and a table and chairs. The pictures in the advertisement are most accurate, but fail to capture fully the beauty of the surroundings. Our stay at the Villa Elaia was the week from August 10th – 17th/ 2013, a celebratory week for all of Italy. As August 15th is the Assumption Day, also known as Ferragosto. From our terrace we could see the fireworks along the coast, including those from as far away as Positano. I hope to return to the Villa Elaia sometime in the future.

“We loved it - beautiful area and great apartment in this well maintained pretty villa”

The property is located in a beautiful setting and it is well maintained. The place looks just like the website photos. Very comfortable apt - we had Coratina a lower unit that has a large private patio that was great. There were five of us ranging in ages 12 to 62 and the accommodations were perfect. The views are lovely - you can still see the ocean through the trees even on the lower units. The place is a five minute walk to town -- steep down ( and back up but good for working off gelato ) through a typical italian town with so many photos ops along the way! You have to cross a busy highway to get to town but we all managed to do so safely on a daily basis. Our neighbors next door were from Denmark and they had been coming since 2006. A few days there was a strong smell of smoke in the area - we told Alfonso and was investigating to find our what it was. It was not an issue in the property itself but in the hill area.
The town of Santa Maria is great fun and the area is incredibly beautiful! The apt is suitable for children and there were many. There are swing in the nice shared green outdoor garden area. WIFI is temperamental so if you need it for work you will be frustrated - for vacation it was ok. We will return!

“good value handy to beach”

We booked this apartment at the last minute, looking for somewhere well priced and near to the beach. And this place is. Although it’s quite small it’s clean and well kept, and having the garden and the terrace makes it much more manageable. The walk to the beach is probably 10-15 minutes with kids, all downhill, and through the town which is lovely. The area is much quieter than other nearby areas (Amalfi) and equally attractive. The beaches were great and we enjoyed our time there. The only negative was the busy road near which was noisy and had to be crossed. Also we arrived on a Saturday and the apartment isn’t stocked with cleaning materials, so we struggled to do dishes and clean until Monday. But Alfonso was very helpful and made us very welcome. This place worked fine for us for 5 days. Oh and Pasteum is an unbelievable- great value and awesome to visit.
