Having watched Band of Brothers we’ve ‘followed’ Major Winters from Normandy, to Bastogne to The Eagles Nest. This guy is a true inspiration and what a great memorial to him. So good to see that the local villagers also contributed to the memorial, respect and appreciation after all of these years……. Or is it consumerism!

We stopped at this memorial because my husband saw a documentary on the memorial (Dick Winters- Hang Tough). It was easy to find and offered ample parking off the main road. The roadside memorial takes a few minutes to read and is nicely done. It is worth a 10-15 minute stop to honor and remember the bravery of the men that fought in this and every D-Day battle.

We were in Normandy, on our D-day beach tour. Our bus driver slowed down at the statue on the side of the road but it didn't get much of a review from our tour director, other than the fact that it was the Major Richard Winters Memorial and the fact that it was fairly new. Kind of sad to see it, as was out there in the middle of nowhere and the fact we didn't even get to stop and take a pic, looked like a nice statue to a Great Hero.

A great memorial to the men that fought throughout the Normandy campaign and worth your attention. I visited back in 2013 and noticed "LEADERSHIP" written in very large font on the back side and I thought this was the most important message on the whole statue. Too bad the statue is not built to be walked around to catch this as I'm sure most visitors miss it.

On the drive from Utah Beach, it is easy to pull over and remember this leader who led his men in a difficult situation with a great deal of thought.
