Thank you Sophie for a wonderful morning for our family of four (with two boys 6 & 8)!! Loved your local knowledge about the area, great tea & the cooking of damper bread a nice touch! Would highly recommend this for families or anyone wanting a low key but interesting adventure with Sophie, Pearl (dog), Jester & Duke (the horses) :) Many thanks!

If you only have time for one activity in Barrytown, make it this one.

Our wagon driver Sophie and partner Dave met us with clydesdale Duke already set up in harness. Lovely people: knowledgable and highly competent with wagon driving. We had a great ride along the beach, with our horse getting up to a trot, while Sophie filled us in on local history and geography.

The wagon is safe and very stable. Good for people of any age and mobility. We stopped for Sophie to light a fire and brew up a cup of tea then we made stick damper bread over the fire, with jam. Very nice it was too. All the while the sun was lowering over the Tasman Sea.

Great for Kiwis or visitors. Thanks for sharing your time with us and taking us for a wonderful sunset drive on the beach!

This is my best experience on this trip. There is nearby Punakaiki. It suits a family with kids. Thank you to Sophie who drove the wagon and explained to us about the area. A horse and dog are very friendly. My kids love them. I like this experience that my family enjoys together. Also, I can see a good scenic on the beach. I am sure that this is a unique experience to every family. If you want to do this experience, you should take a camera and wear a warm jacket. It takes more than 2 hours.

Took my 7 and 8 year old on this for a birthday party along with two of their friends. Weather turned out beautiful. It was good value for money as it went for more than 2 hours so i feel it was time well spent. The kids especially loved when Duke went through water or down a stony bank on the beach. The kids were entertained by making the damper bread and searching for pretty stones and shells when waiting for the campfire.

My only negative was that Duke got spooked when on the main road on the way back but he did recover well. Other than that he was very gentle when the kids wanted to pat him and Pearl the dog was an extra attraction. Very happy with experience.

What an amazing morning! Sophie and loyal Clydesdale Duke and always-ready-for-a-pat pupster Pearl provided us with one of the best mornings we have all enjoyed in NZ as a family together.
It is a tour with a bit of everything that anyone of any age or fitness ability can do ( so long as they can get in and out of a wagon). Sophie sure knows her stuff and provided us with an interesting commentary about the local area along the way before providing a warm and cosy fire on the beach with the best damper and tea I have ever had!
There was also plenty of time for some fossicking in the beach for that beautiful Kiwi Jade stone.
Perhaps the highlight, especially for our 11 year old daughter was cantering along the beach with the wind in our hair and when she was allowed to take the reins for a short bit, so much fun!
A lovely relaxing way to enjoy the natural landscape.
