I absolutely fell in love with this lodge. The view of the grounds, garden, lake, town in the distance, cows, birds, were all incredible. Open your windows as you drive up the driveway to smell the lavender. I could have lived at this place.
The rooms are large as are the bathrooms. There is free wireless internet. Balconies overlooking the lake. They leave cookies in your room. Huge walk-in closets. Pool with infinity edge. The service from Donna was so friendly and accomodating. However, they have sold this lodge to new owners so I can't attest to their service. There are many things to do nearby and on the property including horseback riding, jet skiing, golf, and hiking.
All the rooms are beautiful. The cumulus room has the largest balcony and is the centre of the view.
Highly recommended.

We stayed at Maungatautari Lodge for 3 nights in September 2005 on the recommendation of friends. What a great time we had, having never really visited the Cambridge area we couldn't believe how much we could do -golf, fishing, great walks and plenty of time relaxing in the surrounds of the beautiful lodge.
Our hosts Peter and Christine were great for giving advice on what to do and the Lodge's dinners were to die for, as were the hearty breakfasts before golf!
We stayed in a lovely spacious Suite with excellent views of Lake Karapiro and a nice sunny terrace as well. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Lodge to locals who want a luxury weekend away from the hustle and bustle or visitors to New Zealand who want to experience our country's beautiful scenery and outdoors in the unique setting of the lodge, having stayed at many luxury properties around the world I can attest that this lodge is right up there and great value for money, 5 out of 5, we will be back for our anniversary next year!

My wife and I stayed at Maungatautari Lodge for the last four nights of our month long visit to New Zealand. The Lodge, accommadation - in one of the garden cottages -, food and ambience were excellent. Our hosts Christine and Peter could not have been more attentive or friendly. They produced an excellent wine before dinner for us to taste, and this was followed by Chris's excellent cooking. It was fine New Zealand food, cooked with flair, taking into consideration our preferences.

The gardens and paddocks were lovely with late summer flowers. The swimming pool was an ideal place to cool off after a hike on the Maungatautari mountain.
