Owner description: the Boatshed Kayaks, was set up by Richard Clark in 2000, on his property on the edge of Lake Karapiro. We offer a number of different kayaking and stand up paddle board options from our great waterfalls trip to our evening glow worm experience, just flick through our website to get a better idea for whats available. Lake Karapiro offers an exellent venue with sheltered waters and 15 km of lake to explore. making it a safe and beautiful environment to try something new. our guides and instructors are fully qualified in both flat water and graded river paddleing so if your wanting to explore some of the lower sections of the waikato river between cambridge and hamilton youll be in safe hands. The Boatshed kayaks is also involved in multisport training and hire and has been training grade 2 paddlers for over 8 years, with a huge number of paddlers experiencing their introduction to kayaking through The Boatshed. The ethos at the Boatshed has always been on getting people out there paddling, young and old, and therefore growing kayaking as a sport or recreational activity.

“Great fun for all ages”
Reviewed 29 January 2017

We took this trip with the whole family from grandparents, children and grand-kids (14 and 11y.o.). It was a question whether we could keep up with the kids but excellent guides and easy kayak conditions ensured everybody got a fantastic experience. It was only as hard as how you wanted to approach it, so those with energy who wanted to power ahead could, and those who wanted a leisurely ride along the stream could also do that as the guides stayed ahead and behind the group to keep everyone moving along. The ride back through the glowworms was excellent and the talk provided by the guides was informative. At night the kayaking was a different experience but not so dark that it was dangerous or scary. Lights on the kayaks meant you just followed the others ahead until you reached the landing area again. A long night considering the drive back to Auckland but one that was well worth it and enjoyed by all. Well run and organised by the crew and they were easy to talk to and very friendly.

“Amazing glow worm experience!”
Reviewed 20 January 2017 via mobile

We booked in for the evening glow worm trip.
Guides were friendly & informative.
The trip was nice and easy for those with little to no kayaking experience.
Scenery was stunning!
Great fun, good opportunity to chat to others while waiting for dark.
The float back down the river in the dark was made magical by the sheer number of glow worms. It was so simple, but such a great experience.
Will probably go back and do it again :)
Make sure you wear a waterproof jacket & jandals or bare feet make it a bit easier for those steering with the foot pedals.

“Girls Day”
Reviewed 20 January 2017

We came and took two kayaks for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. Such a lovely experience, great sights, beautiful day and the lake was dead quiet. Easily recommend this to anybody in the area.

“Fun in the sun ”
Reviewed 17 January 2017 via mobile

Phoebe is just great. She welcomes you with the waiver signing and then fits you for your life jacket. If you're lucky, you'll even get to meet Molly her beautiful 7 y.o lab who'll join you down to the lake.
Kayaks are cleans and good quality. Phoebe gives you a quick lesson, and a waterproof map, then you can set off in search of the waterfalls. A fantastic 3 hours indeed. The booking was easy and done all via email. Payment was made upon arrival. Completed the kayak journey in 1.5hrs and then we found a private little piece of beach to relax at for the last part. You have the kayaks for 3 hours total, which is more than enough time. A great day out indeed and a lot of fun!
