If you are looking for something totally relaxed, local tourist area, beautiful nature, small town, great food, warm people, and unbelievable hosts - well, then you found the place. My wife and I wanted to find a location on the Black Sea for regular vacations. We began in Varna, moved down to Sveti Vlas (avoid Sunny Beach, except to have a glimpse of mafia capitalism gone wild) and then took the boat from Nesebar to Sozopol. Embraced by Georgie - our pirate-scarf host - and shuttled to the small town of Chernomorets (20 min ride North of Sozopol), we entered a space we immediately called our own. The apartment was clean, had all amenities, nicely decorated and boasting a gorgeous view of the bay overlooking Sozopol. It is a 500m walk down basic roads to the 2nd longest beach in Bulgaria (4.x KM), or 1.5 KM walk to Chernomorets center (really close distance). The area is visited principally by Bulgarian and Russian tourists, the beach has several simple restaurants grilling fish and meat, as well as plenty of beach bars - including a really cool one which plays rocking music (not blaring) until 2am. The town of Chernomorets has several good restaurants (although we ate at the beach or in the apartment). The most amazing though is the warm hospitality shown by Katia and Georgie (Gregana, their daughter, is the online agent - and also super responsive and nice). Katia very kindly prepared a Banitza for breakfast the first day - and given my wife's love for snorkeling and fishing, Georgie welcomed us to join him at his favorite mussel gathering place - totally awesome - which we then cleaned our catch and prepared for a fantastic meal. This is THE laid back vacation that I have been looking for since coming over from the USA in 1990. No need to look any further - this is the place!
