The interior of the synagogue has been sympathetically restored and is an oasis of calm in the busy medieval old town. The museum is very well presented using information boards, artefacts and photographs to tell the story of the Jews of Rhodes.
Well worth a visit by anyone interested in religion and history.

Old style Synagogue with a sad history. A look into the past as things used to be. Unfortunately, during WWII, the Natzi's rounded up the Jews in both Rhodes and surrounding Prefectures and shipped them off to the concentration camps. There are pictures of some of the family's including those who managed to leave and start their lives somewhere else. A reminder of a terrible time in human history.

Search out this ancient synagogue and museum to learn about the history and lives of the Rodian Jews, now depleted to only five families due to the murderous Nazis.
Well presented with many familiar artefacts and explanatory storyboards. Highly recommended

We visited the shul after being on the island for 12 hours. Our cruise ship docked at rhodes
This shul is a monument to the Jews of Rhodes who lived on the island till they were captured by the Nazis in 1944 and transported to Auschwitz where the majority of this community perished. This is a beautiful place of worship. The museum celebrates and catalogues the life of the Jewish community on the island
Well worth the 4 euro entrance fee

Thank you for your positive comment.
We are glad that you have enjoyed the visit. We hope that the Synagogue "Shalom" and the Jewish Museum of Rhodes will always be standing as a memorial to the 2500 Jews from Rhodes and Kos who perished in the concentration camps

This is a beautiful synagogue that is easy to visit. There is no admission charge. There is a small museum attached with some beautiful and some very tragic exhibits.
