Ann & Ross are wonderful host for us. Ross also runs a WALKING tour on Waitomo caves. You heard it right, WALKING! We were able to see amazing glow worms and take nice photos of it. For those un-initiated - you need to bring your DSLR, normal camera is not good enough to take the photo. The evening tour is the best, and you should always check with Ann / Ross to confirm the booking!

As for the stay, we tried the ostrich egg - something very unique to us. The egg was enormous. There were two kittens running around and they are incredible adorable. We just had to keep playing with the kitten.

You'll be able to visit the farm and pet the animals. DO PLAN YOUR TIME, budget several hours in the morning / evening to spend time with the animals. Ann introduced us to the animals she has in the farm, and you'll be guaranteed to learn much from her. It was the first time we got so close to the animals and there was a moment where we were surrounded by different farm animals. The experience was incredible.

Breakfast was home-cooked by Ann and it was great. There was much variety of food on the table and the guests chatted as if we're one family. Location was great too, if the weather is right, you can do some star-gazing at the farm. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms are generally good.

A comfortable home-style bed and breakfast, We felt welcomed from the start and ended up feeling like family. The breakfast was fabulous and if you are an animal lover it's impossible to leave. Excellent location close to multiple attractions.

Room Tip: Animals lovers rejoice, take the morning animal tour.

Thank you for your review - heart-warming and gracious! A Haven for "animal-lovers" is who we are......the Munchkin Cat & Kitten Combo brings such delight...there is not many places you can have a little munchkin jump onto your shoulder and give you a "welcome smooch"!! Dottie is about to have kittens anyday...

The hosts- Ann & Ross- were friendly and welcoming. Our 4-bed, chalet-style accommodation was simple but very comfortable. We had a kitchenette with a microwave, toaster as well as portable electric oven. There were heaters and electric blankets provided for our use, even in summer; very appreciated by tropical guests like us The external bathroom, for our sole use, was just opposite our main door and the shower was modern with a good strong jet of water while the toilet flush was also strong and efficient, so no worries there! For our teens, this farm stay was the highlight of their 2-week visit to NZ. They loved the petting farm in a storybook setting and populated with miniature animals that were gentle and comfortable around strangers. We got to feed the emus with our bread, the donkeys and ponies with our apples and carrots, the pig and tortoise with our cherry tomatoes. Our teens adored the resident dog, Pippy, and Munchkin cats, especially a tiny kitten called "Di-Low-Go" for his stubby little legs. If you are looking for a luxury farm stay, this is not the place- it's a real (meaning working) farm with animals to feed and care for and animal poop in the fields where the animals wander and reside (tip- if you have rubber boots, wear them!). But if you are looking for an opportunity to interact up close with farm and other more exotic animals like ostriches, llamas and alpacas, then I highly recommend this place over at least 2 nights- hearty farm breakfast included (ostrich egg omelette extra at NZ$5), warm hosts who work hard 24-7 (so please appreciate that they are always busy and can't offer the usual room service or house keeping standards of hotels and motels!), and a magical experience with their menagerie of "fantastic beasts"

We stayed for two nights with a young family. Ann was lovely and very welcoming. She went out of her way to help us out. My daughter has a phobia of animals... all animals, which we were aware of before booking our accommodation. We were hoping our daughter might be a little more comfortable with at least one animal after our visit. Ann was wonderful and helped our daughter ride a pony for the first time.

Breakfast was great. The jams were amazing and the yoghurt perfect Ann made us fresh homemade bread for breakfast.

Overall we loved our stay! It was perfect for family time, a chance to get away from our devices and enjoy some amazing creatures! Thank you Ann xxx

Thank you for your lovely review. It gave me a lot of pleasure to see your daughter enjoying riding the horse so much. Every little step is a big step for her in this direction. Only once I can remember in 18 years has a child gone away without a ride on Tonto, so I am always hopeful we can spend enough quality time building confidence and getting a "smiling result"! Fulfilment then for me..... Cheers

I chose Waitomo Big Bird B&B because being tall compared to my Dad, he used to call me Big Bird, I took this as a good omen. My partner and I come from Queensland and had been Black Water Rafting so we were cold on arrival and Ann went to great lengths to ensure we felt fine about using the heaters. She also poured me a cup of Kawa Kawa Tea (yum) and gave us a slice of chocolate cake to welcome us. I joined the walk-a-bout to pet the animals (after the rain stopped) I was able to get some unusual selfies with some of the animals which I enjoyed. Ann also supplied me with gumboots, relief as I had packed "light" and didn't have mine with me. The homemade jams at breakfast were another highlight. I will recommend Waitomo Big Bird B&B to all my friends - there is so much love here.
