We stayed two nights at Kamahi Cottage- we were coming from a big hotel in Sydney so it was great to have our own little house in the country- the cottage is comfortable, pretty, well equipped and cozy- surrounded by beautiful gardens and a lovely lemon tree right outside our door. Our host Liz provided dinner our first night, since would be driving and arriving after eight- we had an absolutely delicious home cooked gourmet dinner- tomato soup, polenta, local NZ lamb which was great, nice veggies and chocolate cake. Breakfasts were outstanding as well, and the surrounding trails are spectacular for hikes. Liz and her husband were terrific about suggesting places to visit and things to do, and it was so nice to come back to our cozy cabin. Liz made reservations for us at a great restaurant, and suggested we visit a local sheep farm called Hairy Feet where some of the Hobbit movie was filmed- both the restaurant and the farm were highlights of our trip that we would not have known about ourselves. Can't recommend Kamahi highly enough, and hope to get back there in a few years.

Room Tip: one bedroom upstairs, lovely view and super comfy bed

So glad you enjoyed being with us, plus the local attractions. With any luck that sweater you left behind should reach you soon. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime!

My son and I took a long adventure trip to celebrate his graduation and spend some time together before he moved away to start his career. Amidst what was probably the best vacation of my life, Kamahi Cottage stood out as a truly memorable experience. We stayed overnight as we went from rappelling and caving in Waitomo to backpacking the Tongariro Northern Circuit.

The cottage itself was a jewel nestled among beautiful surroundings. The attention to detail in the furnishings and fixtures was apparent. The friendliness and hospitality of the Cowan family made for a memorable stay. We enjoyed wandering the Cowan's property enjoying the impressive plantings and landscaping. Mr. Cowan took us for a tour of their property and we had the opportunity to watch sheep being sheared. Mrs. Cowan cooked us a delicious breakfast and both Cowans were friendly and engaging and we enjoyed discussing and learning about life in New Zealand.

Mrs. Cowan directed us to the Thirsty Weta in Otorohanga where we enjoyed a pleasant dinner.

I would hope to be able to stay at Kamahi Cottage on any return to the North Island.

We had a lovely stay at the Kamahi Cottage!! We spent one night there at the end of our honeymoon and it was the most relaxing wonderful evening. Liz and Evan have created a romantic private escape - much needed after adventure filled travel. Liz is a remarkable cook and the dinner she prepared was the best we had on our entire trip! I have several dietary restrictions and she was able to work around everything. we wish we could have stayed longer but it was the perfect end to a trip and allowed us to recharge before traveling home. A stop at the a Cottage was one of the highlights of our trip!!!

We visited the Cottage after seeing the Hobbiton and the next day drove to the black waters rafting company for cave exploring - this was a perfect stop in between.

We stayed two nights in Kamahi Cottage. It is well maintained, and very romantic. The farm setting is beautiful, but the best part is the garden around the main (hosts) house. It is the most stunning private garden we have seen, and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner amongst flowers, birds and the sweet smell of summer. The hosts are warm, professional and friendly. Highly recommended!
