One of the best escape rooms we’ve done … our 10 year old son was enthralled and scared at the same time. The perfect family adventure… if you dare … a full 90 minutes with The Troll Cave. Peter the host really made it special and held our attention as he told us the back story … he really drew us in. If you love adventure and fun would recommend this to all families. A real highlight of our trip to this area!!
Absolutely bloody grouse experience. Scott was a great guide, taught us heaps about the caves and the environment you're caving through. The Haggas Honking Holes was the perfect experience, great abseils, rock climbs and little squeezes.
Definitely recommend this if you're looking for a little more fun.
Great company, great guide, great experience.
Cheers
If you're looking for a new kind of family adventure, check out the Waitomo Adventures TROLL CAVES! Peter, our guide, was fantastic. My 7 year old was scared at first, but loved it by the end. Couldn't stop talking about it! Great value for money, and good in any weather. Really fun, engaging, and imaginative activity for kids and parents. 100% recommend. Thanks for not eating us this time Tom!
Thoroughly enjoyed the blackwater rafting tour with Amy and Harrison on Friday April 15 at 2:30. Our group of four friends had the best time! Allow four hours for the trip but the time in the cave is 2.5 hours and you spend more time walking/climbing around in the cave than you do floating or swimming.
Top tip: don’t worry if the boots you get have a hole in them because they’re going to get full of water anyways - in fact it’s an advantage - built in drainage!
There were options to go through some tight squeezes but always a walk/crawl around option as well.
Glow worms were cool. Unfortunately a big storm came through over a month ago and flooded the cave causing the glowworm population to die - so there aren’t as many as usual.
Nick drove us by shuttle to and from the check in desk to the cave and provided commentary about the local area, folklore and economy. The pandemic has hit this area hard so please come out and support these guys - it’s so worth the memories you will make!
Would definitely do this again or try another adventure such as the abseiling trip.
As a New Zealander myself there are alot of amazing places to see and do around here, but the 7 hour lost world tour takes the cake!! There's something about having no idea where you are , exploring caves, abseiling, rock climbing, jumping through holes into the gushing rivers below and that so much more. And the guides were amazing !! They could answer every question you have, pushed you to take a step out of your comfort zone, funny as hell, and still ensured you felt safe at all times. (As safe as you can be when your dangling 30 stories in the air ). They also provided a delicious dinner which i was not expecting. Thank you to everyone for a day to remember. Definitely a trip worth taking and well definitely be back again. 5 stars !!!
It was my first time doing abseiling. The experience is simply AMAZING! I don’t have to repeat anymore. The other reviews on trip advisors are same as what we have experienced.
The best part of this tour is that every matter are well balanced. Apart from the scenery, the satisfaction from abseiling and ladders climbing (30m!) were great! At the beginning it might look scary. The guides are well trained with double safety check. You feel extremely safe during the journey.
Special thanks to Amy, Harrison, Joe and Nick. We will definitely come back for another tour.
