We did the cave & boat ride tour as first timers and we totally enjoyed it.
Recommend to everyone, who has a short time in NZ too
Our guide “T” was excellent and funny 😄
The caves were awesome to see and the boat ride, which was quick felt like it was enough to wooah us!! We lurv the glow worms, the peacefulness it brings and the amazing closeness to nature & creatures..

Totally worth it. A different and amazing experience altogether. The more quiet the group the better the experience.

We have seen several Caves all over the world and similar caves in Oudtshoorn (Congo Caves), South Africa but what makes it so special and different are the Glowworms. The cave is well maintained by the current generation of Maori community people whose great grand fathers were the first to arrive here in 17th and 18th century. There are different chambers in the caves and our Guide explained each and every detail patiently. The final Boat ride in the river through the dark caves was the highlight of our visit. We were asked to maintain pin drop silence as the Boatman moved the Boat by holding on to a rope on the top of his head. Nothing other than the Glowworms were visible in that caves - there were thousands of them on the roof of the caves. Finally the Boat came of the Cave at our disembarkation point and a wonderful journey ended with sweet memories and great knowledge about the place. No Photography was allowed inside the Caves. However we were allowed to take Photos at the disembarkation point.
