Being extremely fond of the Yorkshire Dales we visit quite frequently and usually choose to go self catering. We have stayed in various places in the Dales, but often gravitate towards Askrigg as it is such a lovely village with a choice of pubs and facilities and great walks in any direction from the village. Cringley Cottage is 1 of 3 holiday cottages in Wensleydale owned by Debbie and Steve Allenby and we have stayed in all 3 - with this visit being our second visit to Cringley Cottage. All 3 cottages are finished to a high standard with comfortable furniture and pleasant decor and all are extremely well equipped and reasonably priced when compared like for like with other properties. Cringley Cottage is lovely and warm due to good insulation and electric radiators (better than night storage as they are thermostatically controlled) and also has a Aga log burner should you want to light it - which we did just because it is so nice to sit in with a warm fire. The cottage has WiFi and free view TV for those that don't want to get away from it all - but phone reception is poor. (There is a landline for emergencies or incoming calls)
A welcome pack of milk, bread, eggs and cheese was also very welcome.
We will no doubt be booking with Debbie and Steve again in future and recommend their properties for anyone else who wants a nice base to tour the Dales from.
It is a lovely renovated cottage in the middle of wonderful Askrigg, we had perfect service from Debbie and we can highly recommend it.
Would be the amount of time we stayed for! What a fantastic cottage, refurbished to the highest of standards while keeping its original charm. This little place has made a massive impression, we have already told friends and family how amazing it was and they too have made bookings off the back of this.
We arrived to find the cottage exceptionally clean, the owners have catered for everything you could think of so it was literally home from home. I have never been anywhere were the owners have left you fresh local bread, fresh local milk and proper Yorkshire tea bags for when you arrive. What a blessing this was, we were on the road for 6 hours so to be able to kick back straight away with a cuppa was bang on the money!
This was our first visit to Yorkshire and the Dales and we were blown away with the natural beauty and charm of this place, since we have been back in London we have pretty much said each day how we would love to be back. We tried to visit as many places as possible, all of which were stunning. On our 4th day we decided to stay around Askrigg and ended up on a 5 hour hike which resulted in finding two of the most beautiful waterfalls one of which you could get right behind - AMAZING.
We would like to thank the owners for allowing us to experience your beautiful home and for making this an amazing break from our reality, we will definitely be coming back to the Yorkshire Dales for years to come.

Cringley Cottage is obviously one of my best holiday souvenirs ever... Just the perfect place to enjoy a few days far far away from the cities. It is really cosy, and, for us french people, typical english. There are plenty of wonderful walks all around, either directly from Askrigg, or in the surrounding dales. And after a day out, how great it was to come back in this little warm nest... I'm dreaming often of Cringley Cottage.
The owner, Deborah, was really friendly and helpful : she even came to the cottage late in the evening when we came from Liverpool airport in order to bring us some extra bed linen.
We will come back, that's sure !
Cringley cottage is perfectly situated in the village of askrigg, which is ideal for exploring the dales. It is warm and welcoming and finished to a very high standard. Everything you need is there and it makes for a very inviting place to come back to after a day out.
The bedrooms are good sizes as is the rest of the property. The garden is lovely to sit out in and we found the locals very friendly.
The local shop is just a minutes walk away, which also sells wood and kindling for the log burner.
Askrigg itself is so picturesque as is the rest of the dales with unspoilt scenery and views everywhere you go. Cringley cottage is the perfect retreat after a perfect day out in one of the most beautiful parts of England. We'll certainly be back soon! Many thanks!
