We spent a week at this hotel and found it to be a welcoming and comfortable place to stay and a good base for touring the Val Di Noto cities and the surrounding area.
We stayed for a full week in the suite with terrace. It was a spacious room and was well appointed. The terrace doesn’t have a brilliant view but is quite private from the rest of the hotel grounds and a nice place to spend some time in the late afternoon as it gets the late sun. The room had a fridge which was stocked with still and sparkling mineral water for which there was no charge which was a nice touch. Wifi was good both inside and outside the hotel.
The bathroom was OK with a full bath although I would have preferred a fixed overhead shower rather than the small handheld shower. It worked though and the pressure was fine but the water did have a tendency to stray outside of the bath…
The outdoor area is lovely and very peaceful. There was plenty of seating and a large sun-lounging area. It was also possible to find shelter from the wind from most directions – we had quite a windy week but did manage to sunbathe (in April) quite often. The pool is sufficient for cooling down in – probably less than 10m long so if you want a holiday workout in the pool you may be disappointed.
The breakfast service was quite comprehensive – not a cooked breakfast but there was plenty of choice – juices, fruit, cake, biscuits, rolls, cereals, jams, honey, yoghurt, cheeses and hams / cured meats. There was clearly something for everyone. A range of different coffees and teas were on tap throughout breakfast and the service was excellent.
We ate dinner 3 times at the hotel over the course of the week and had no complaints each time. It’s a fixed menu with a choice of meat or fish and the quality, variety, and value couldn’t be faulted. We also ate in Pozzallo, which is only 10 minutes away in the car, for some extra variety and this was another good feature of the hotel – its location. Pozzallo is a good town to be near if you want some variety of dining in the evening as it’s a reasonable size so there is plenty of choice from fast food and pizza to high quality fish restaurants (unlike some of the other coastal towns which are quite small and limited for eating choices). Being only 10 minutes away was very handy indeed.
Final mention must go to the service, which was excellent. The hotel only has 8 rooms and the staff is subsequently quite small but I think this is to its benefit. All of the staff were very friendly and most helpful. Service to the room was very efficient - breakfast on the terrace area wasn’t a problem. We got the impression that whatever we asked for they were more than happy to provide – they enjoyed being at our service. Of everything else I could mention about the hotel I would put the service offered at the top of the list.
So, if you are looking for a good value place to stay in peaceful surroundings where you can completely relax then I would suggest you look no further than Cambiocavallo. In fact, I’ve already recommended it to a work colleague and if returning to the area I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. Thanks
