We arrived at dusk, as the sun was setting and the sky a deep elegant pink. The air at Matemwe was perfectly fragranced from the numbers of Frangipani trees that grow along the powder white sandy pathways that take you to your room. I decided to go for a quick swim, before dinner and found that I had the entire beach to myself. The water felt so good and was just what I needed. Fireflies started to circle my head as I took in the total awe of this place.
The staff at Matemwe is incredibly assisting with the friendliest broad smiles I have ever seen. We had a great Swahili night, dance & traditional dinner. Breakfast too is a feast with a wide selection of which I particularly enjoyed the bananas & mangoes that tasted mildly spiced. The beach house is spacious with two main double rooms and a lovely loft that could sleep two more. Staying at the beach house is totally private and serene. Days spent at Matemwe are breezy and genuinely carefree. Like Buddha under the Baobab tree, I too had found Nirvana.
