Description: Situated on the Lake Wanaka lakefront Kai Whakapai Cafe & Bar is known as the Wanaka Institution. A place to slow down and take the load off. Sit down and slow down. Meet friends, new and old, tell stories. Make stories. We serve good food, good brews, good music and a good attitude to good people. So come on down and experience a bit of local Wanaka. We are Kai.

Just wanted to grab a quick lunch during my short stay in Wanaka, never expect a cafe would serve such a nice burger. Thick patty, tasteful cheese, excellent matching with sauces!

This place seemed to be always busy - which can't be said for all the cafes on the lakefront in Wanaka. The flat white was excellent and the service was friendly and the food menu looked excellent for a cafe. Additionally Wifi is available from the service provider upstairs for $3 for 30 minutes and it was good high speed service.

Had coffee and a couple of Wanaka Beerworks beers on tap one afternoon in the sun. Comfortable spot for relaxing between activities or winding down at the end of the day.

Apparently the slow service is an institution here, but not sure why, it was just annoying. Luckily we knew to expect it! The coffee was worth the wait, however, and the indoor and outdoor seating both have views of the lake and are plentiful and comfortable, especially the booth upstairs.
