The welcome the visitor gets in New Zealand is usually exceptional. People are smiley, friendly, interested. Which perhaps makes it a bit unfair marking a place down when this very high standard isn't reached. The reception person, relative to other places we stayed, was a little off-hand (this is just a job, it's not particularly interesting). The accommodation is a little tired, and the outside space for the ground floor rooms backs on to a road (with a thin hedge boundary). Reasonably priced, reasonably comfortable- but other places had set the bar too high!
