Wanaka Trip

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Aug 2022
We travelled to Oakridge Resort and booked for three people. When we arrived there was no bed set up for third guest and got delivered a rollaway. We attempted to eat at the restaurant on the first night but had to wait for a table. We enquired if we could sit for a drink but were told there was no space so had to drive into Wanaka for dinner. On the second day the sauna was broken and not repaired all day and when we attempted to book restaurant we were advised it does not operate on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s so again had to drive into town again.

Dear Julz8371,

We regret that we did not meet your expectations during your stay with us and do sincerely apologize the room was not prepared on arrival appropriately. We will be introducing new steps to ensure this does not repeat. Please be advised that due to worker shortages our restaurant is now operating on a restricted 5 days and we do our best to advise our guests prior to arrival. We wish you all the best on your onward travels.

Oakridge has a great pool area and hot pools available which my 11 year old loved. This is the definitely the draw card for our family. Had an issue with pull out sofa mattress being very thin, but reception were very quick to fix the issue with rollaway bed, which was much appreciated. The restaurant was closed due covid but they had restaurants close by and also kitchen facilities so you can prepare your own snacks etc.

Oakridge has the best hotel gym I've ever seen and the pools are fantastic. Sadly the rooms do not meet the same standard. We had a 3 bedroom unit which was really 3 small units, so having 3 bathrooms was a bonus, however, the 2 bathrooms upstairs have no windows or natural light and upon entering we were overwhelmed by a smell I can only compare to rotting cauliflower. Having the fans on 24/7 made no difference. The first time I used the kitchen tap the arm fell out, it would not screw back in. We alerted reception who said they would send a maintenance man, 3 days later, no maintenance man... after our first night we had gone through the towel allowance as these also had to be used for the pool facilities, we had to ask for some more which triggered the rooms being serviced (thought that would just happen). Funnily, the bed in the large unit was remade and the old sheets just left on the floor!

The pandemic has provided an opportunity for deferred maintenance to be caught up on, or so I would have thought. Williams Hotels clearly did not maximise this opportunity as the rooms' paint work was in a terrible state. The antique TV humoured our children.

Will look elsewhere, but will struggle to match the pools

Dear Gregory,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and your positive comments relating to our gym and pool facilities. We do apologize for the inconvenience caused by the odor in the room on arrival and we will be speaking with our housekeeping team to investigate on what may have caused this, including the confusion around your room service and for the mistake of leaving the sheets in your room. We do provide extra towels for the pool facility which you can collect from reception. From our records concerning the tap we did discuss organizing a repair but we understand that you preferred for this to be done on departure. Thank you again for your feedback and please don't hesitate to get in contact if you have any further comments.

We have been regular customers to the Oakridge for the past 10 years, sadly this is the last time we will stay in this place. We had the worst experience ever.
We are travelling with our 9 month old baby and I called reception in the morning to ask for the bed sheets to be changed for our 2nd night because our little man unfortunately wet the bed.
I removed the sheets in the morning and put them on the floor, trying to be helpful for the housekeeping team.
We went away all day, we came back at 8pm into a room which had not been done at all:
Pile of rubbish still there (got take-away pizza the previous night + all the closed plastic bags with the dirty nappies + rubbish bin overflowing in the bathroom), no new toiletries.
My favourite part:
They left some clean sheets on the chair for us to make our bed !!! What the heck ?? 165$/night and I had to do all the cleaning & bedding myself.
Cherry on the cake, hubby called reception to at least have new towels but they never arrived. The bed sheets were single bed ones, so hubby finally went himself to reception to grab towels + good size sheets.
They explained on the phone that Hskp cannot do our room for 2 night stays because of level 2 restriction. I am working in a hotel and let me tell you that excuse is Bullsh*t.
This is the first time I see such a poor level of service.
For the last 2 years, every time we stay at the Oakridge we have been disappointed but because we have been staying there for so many years, we always say “ok, one more chance”. But that’s it. Will never book this place again.
Also:
* the pool water smells like it was last cleaned in 1998.
* At night, room light up as the door is glass.
* The shower over the bath tub sprays water everywhere, what a mess to clean.
* Very noisy fridge which is just in front of the bed.
* Could hear the water in the pipes all night.

We stayed for 3 nights, the room was lovely and very clean and tidy; the location was very handy to town; the food was delicious with a special shout out to Nisa who was there morning and night; and finally, the hot pools were heavenly. All in all a fabulous stay, but Sky TV in the bedroom and robes to wear to the hot pools would have made it exceptional 🙂

We stayed here for a week in a one bed apartment. It is very well provided for and included dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer with washing powder and dishwasher powder provided. The apartment was clean and warm and quiet.

We were staying to go tramping and cycling everyday so really appreciated the hot tubs for a soak in the evening. They’re open until 9pm so you can chill out in them late on. One evening the bar manager even came out and took a drinks order so we enjoyed G&Ts in our tub.

The location is great, peaceful with good views. It is about 30mins walk to town (not very well lit) or driveable in a few mins. Nearby is Ruby’s cinema and Florences food store which are both walkable in a few minutes.
