We stayed 6 days at the Shangri-La on Yanuca Island, Fiji, for my husband's birthday, having always loved Shangri-La hotels. While the island itself is a paradise, the hotel fell short of our expectations. The rooms desperately need refurbishment, feeling more like a 3-star rather than a 5-star hotel.
On the plus side, the overall hotel area is beautifully designed, with thatched roofs, wooden beams, and natural materials creating an authentic island ambience. The restaurants, especially the 'adults-only' ones, were excellent, with great breakfast options, live music, and exceptional dinners at the Asian and Italian venues. The adults-only pool was a serene oasis with stunning horizon views.
However, despite the beautiful public areas, the rooms specifically are in need of some reparation. When it comes to room service and overall hospitality, we were left a bit disappointed. From our arrival to the reception and cleaning services, the experience didn’t meet the high standards we've come to expect from Shangri-La hotels.
Would we return to Fiji? Absolutely!
But unfortunately, we wouldn’t choose the Shangri-La Fiji again.
