I stayed in Yanuca Lagoon Deluxe from 13th-15th August and I must say I had an amazing time as the staff were super friendly and helpful.

Food at Beach Bar and Grill were scrumptious; I would highly recommend Grill prawns, kokoda and Tandoori chicken Wrap. Though I was disappointed with Sustainable whole fish - it lacked seasoning and flavor and Shish touk as the chicken was not nicely marinated hence making the meat texture tough and dry.

Try the inflatable Water park..its a must!!

Overall, Fijian resort is amazing for both work and leisure.

Room tip: The view from Yanuca Lagoon Deluxe is breathtaking as you can see the pool, beach and water park

We travelled in a large family group of 11, two families with 6 children all up, parents and pop! Kids were 10 years down to 1.5 years. We stayed in ground level rooms, can’t recall the name but they were furthest from the restaurants and pools but still an easy walk. Our rooms overlooked a grassy area just in front of the beach. This was amazing - we later stayed in a yasawa islands luxury resort but preferred shangri la for the ability to have a wine or beer on the front patio watching the kids play for hours. Most ground floor rooms seemed to have similar set up. Cannot recommend highly enough for families - get a ground floor room!
The kids spent so long wading in the warm water just in front of our room with reef shoes, catching tiny hermit crabs.
The snorkelling is very average if you’re used to Great Barrier Reef or outer Fiji islands but it’s warm and lots of fish to look at.
The food was very good everywhere.
The staff were mostly very friendly too.
Weather was great in October, perfect.
Only real complaint was room servicing. We had to call and call and the floors were getting really gross with grass, sand and dirt. If I’d had cleaning tools I’d have happily done it myself rather than wait but none were supplied. This stopped the experience being 5 star.

We stayed at 'The Reef' which is an adults only end of the resort, with a beautiful cocktail lounge and rooms facing the ocean. If you're traveling as a couple - the reef is well worth the extra cost. You have the golf course and spa right at your doorstep - you also have your own shuttle to other parts of the resort. We were only here 3 nights at the end of our honeymoon. It's a beautiful resort but after leaving the Yasawa Island Resort & Spa, it felt big and busy. Having do it over, I would stay on mainland first, then fly to Yasawa Island.
There is plenty to do - loved the mini golf and the actual golf course is great as well. Short, wide fairways.

My husband and I stayed in the adults' only Reef wing in a reef bure for 6 nights in March 2020.

This was supposed to be a relaxing and romantic beach holiday at the half-way point of our long-planned 6-month long around-the-world adventure. At the time of our check-in in March, COVID-19 had already made its way around the entire world and we were at a point when we realised we'd probably have to alter, or indeed cancel, the rest of our adventure. On the second day after our check-in, the first case was recorded in Fiji and, a day after that, Fiji went into lockdown. All our plans, bookings and flights for the upcoming 3 months, including flights out of Fiji, were being cancelled before our eyes as the hours and days progressed. For us as foreigners, stuck far away from home with very little support network, with suddenly no flights available from Fiji nor any of our upcoming hotel bookings, other than the present one at Shangri-La, valid anymore, we were, to put it mildly, a bit stressed ("terrified" and "panicked" might have been more accurate during the darkest hours of the night...).

The staff, and especially the Reef Operations Manager, Mr. William Work, however, turned a pretty awful situation into something good and we will have positive memories of Fiji, its people and Shangri-La thanks to them. Their approach was not only friendly and heartfelt but went far, far above and beyond the call of duty. For example, they repeatedly emphasised that we would not be thrown out even though it was pretty much just us and one other couple left, they informed us they'd still organise the complimentary cocktail hour even if we were the only ones left, and made arrangements for the on-site supermarket to be open for a few hours now and then so we could buy necessities. They repeatedly kept checking with us how things were going and how we were feeling. One afternoon I was in the bure when housekeeping arrived, and the two ladies treated me with such warmth and compassion when I told them about our situation - even though they must have been struggling with similar, or worse, fears themselves - that I felt like I was being treated as a valued member of their extended Fijian family, not a difficult customer. Mr. Work also provided us with direct phone numbers to Fiji Airways, which somehow miraculously let us bypass the lengthy queues, and - in the end - this turned out to be a lifeline for us getting home.

Having just prior embarked from a 3-night Fijian cruise (Captain Cook Cruises) where hand hygiene and social distancing, unfortunately, weren't the norm yet, Shangri-La felt clean and safe and their approach to the evolving situation was pro-active. The staff came up to greet us warmly when we arrived but simultaneously advised us of hand sanitizing gels (which were available everywhere) and other practices.

Besides this, the reef bure itself was beautiful. A large entry, a living room, a bedroom, and a massive bathroom with jaccuzzi and both indoor and (fantastic) outdoor showers. There have been some comments about the water temperature. We found that you just had to let the water run on maximum heat for a bit, and then we managed to achieve the desired temperature. There was also a nice covered patio, which came in handy due to the weather being very rainy, as well as stairs down to the beach (which was, however, extremely rocky and pretty unswimmable). The complimentary minibar was kept topped up efficiently. The bed was very comfy, AC was efficient and quiet and the bure overall was quiet. We also very much enjoyed the complimentary golf buggy that we used for going everywhere, really. The resort is very large, so walking would have taken forever. The only negative in the bure was that there were some issues with water condensing on the windows. Lots of wildlife about: a very loud gekko (we thought it was a bird, but were informed by housekeeping that it was a gekko) who left poop everywhere, a mongoose in the hedge, some crabs on the lawn, and bats at sunset in the tree by Goldien Cowrie 🙂

As an involuntarily childless couple, we book adults' only accommodation whenever this is possible. The Reef wing provided a luxurious, quiet and relaxing stay. The daily complimentary evening cocktails and canapés were a delight, and I absolutely loved the extensive adults' only breakfast at Goldien Cowrie (with both buffet and à la carte options). Breakfast kept us happy until the canapé hour. We also liked the fact that we could still use the services of the rest of the resort, often heading over to the tropical tiki bar after dinner. Overall, the resort was massive and almost like its own small town with, among other things, a large-ish supermarket (snacks, pot noodles, souvenirs, books, toiletries), an icecream bar, a tourist office and even an alcohol store. For dinner, we especially enjoyed the Golden Cowrie (Italian) and Takali Asian Kitchen. Prices were reflective of a remote resort and a Shangri-La property and we obviously knew this when booking so we were not surprised nor shocked by them. The only slight negative with the Reef wing was that the beach wasn't that great. If you're looking for the perfect picture with palms bending over the turquoise water, you'd had to head over to the kids' side.

We also booked 3-hour pampering sessions at the spa (pre-lockdown) and were provided with a couple's suite, which was a very nice surprise. The treatments themselves were good and relaxing, but we weren't informed until we arrived to the spa that some of our chosen treatments wouldn't be available. It would've been nice if we'd been informed about this beforehand. I'd strongly recommend booking spa treatments in advance since they appeared popular and people who just turned up where turned away as they were fully booked (and this was in low season).

Weather-wise, we visited during the rainy season. When planning the trip, we'd assumed it would be like in the Caribbean in the rainy season: mostly sunny with hard rain for an hour at the same time in the afternoon daily. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. It pretty much rained non-stop for the entire duration of our stay. (The one day it was sunny, I was on the phone the entire day to airlines trying to get us tickets home.) We were therefore glad we had the bure where we could hang out on the covered balcony.

In conclusion, Shangri-La's Fijian Resort&Spa provided a tropical and relaxing safe haven for us and we wouldn't mind returning once the world is back to normal and the sun is shining :)

Room tip: We loved the reef bure

We traveled here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The place was fantastic, the staff friendly, but by goodness it was expensive. There is no pay as you go with regards to eating and drinking at most places, so be prepared for a big bill at the end of the trip. We were also informed on checking in that we had not paid for the accommodation as yet, and this combined with the 'deposit' required up front was a big hit on day 1. Despite all this, we had an absolutely wonderful time - most days there was a towel 'animal' waiting for us in our room, and this and all the other little touches made it a special time. One other piece of advice - keep ALL your receipts and go through the final bill with a fine tooth comb - we found 4 things on our bill that were not ours.
