Having stayed at the Sheraton, Villas and Westin complex at least a dozen times over the past 20 years it really pains me to write this review but our recent stay fell well short of our previous experiences. The staff, as always, are warm and friendly but there is only so much they can do to make up for the most recent changes and refresh. Most jarring, are the limited dining options which are completely out-of-sync with the extensive high quality options and great value restaurants of surrounding resorts. We have never left Marriott complex to dine on our previous stays but went to the Sofitel almost every night which has outstanding options (Bazaar, Solis and Madame So) and is almost half the price. On the two nights we chose to stay and eat at Tatavu the same dish (seared tuna) was completely different and the Kokoda was a deconstructed version, with no lime to cure the fish, which tasted nothing like the traditional Fijian dish. The dinner buffet, which we did not join, worked out to ~AU$450 for a family of four. Other striking changes are the closure of Ports O’ Call which was the finest restaurant in the South Pacific, closure of the bar lounge overlooking the pool which is now enclosed in glass and completely empty and a VR centre which I suspect most parents would rather keep their children away from on a beach holiday to disconnect. We never saw management checking in with guests like we had on all previous trips and were never asked about our stay even at check out. Not saying this is good, bad or indifferent but it was a noticeable change from previous stays where one particular F&B manager was literally across everything without being intrusive to make sure of quality and consistency was spot on and it seemed to show. Hopefully a little more attention on these areas will see everything bounce back.
