Just returned from a last-minute impromptu three day stay for our 20th anniversary. The bed-and-breakfast was fantastic. As mentioned in the other reviews, Karen was spot on on getting us on incredible trails. The lodge itself is very close to glacier point. And around the corner from the valley. You are technically outside the park, but you have to go into the park to get there. So you are a half an hour away from the valley instead of an hour and a half if you stay anywhere outside the park. You’re 13 miles from glacier point where incredible hikes begin.
In our 2 1/2 days, we hiked 36 miles of trails recommended by Karen all the more breathtaking. She even provided insider knowledge on how to get into little known and less traveled parts of the park which were equally stunning. We only enjoyed breakfast one day, heading out early to hike on the other days, outfitted with day packs, piled and portable breakfast items (yogurt, bagels, etc) provided by Karen
The biggest shortcoming to Yosemite High Sierra is also its strength. They have a draconian cancellation policy. Once you reserve your spot, you pay the full price, no cancellations. The upside to that, is that there is sometimes availability where most places in the valley are difficult to get on short notice. That said, it is such a wonderful place, and she is such a wonderful host, that it still fills up. But it did allow for us to get a last-minute reservation. We have recommended it now to all of our friends, and look forward to returning!
