Self-Guided Tour of Yellowstone Upper Loop from...

We drove through this kind of out of the way area in mid September from Cooke City MT toward West Yellowstone MT. This is a beautiful area with the potential to see many animals but we did not. Still just the fact that we were in Yellowstone was exciting and we did see some animals later in our trip. All areas of the park are worthwhile!

We were in Lamar Valley to see the wolves and when waiting I noticed bison get up and start walking to the road. I stood there the entire time watching the herd cross the road and keep on walking away. The wolf watchers who had their equipment set up for watching were really nice. They let anyone take a look.

I was visiting with a group looking for wildlife, especially wolves. Beautiful snowy landscapes, lots of bison, and other wildlife, but no wolves on the day we were there. However we did see some not far away at Gardiner.

Lamar Valley is the most beautiful area in Yellowstone region. It is lush green landscape where you can drive and enjoy the views. If you are lucky, you can see some really good wildlife. Bisons are just around everywhere, hard to spot a bear. Must visit when in Yellowstone !

Lamar Valley is a spectacular area of the park known for its abundance of wildlife in the area. We witnessed herds of bison that came within 5 feet of our vehicle here and that made our daughter's day. They look not only larger that close up but they have a scurvy look that I've never really noticed (shedding perhaps?) Not only did we see bison here, but about a dozen antelope, 4 black bear and elk.
Wonderful place here...not that there is a bad spot in Yellowstone.
