After spending part of our holiday at the other end of Waikiki, we decided to try the Diamond Head end of the beach for our last day in Waikiki. We loved the beach here. Quieter less coral and less surf.
We booked the Ocean Waikiki view room. The room looked recently refurbished, tasteful decor, compact bathroom, in-room safe, balcony and stunning view down the beach to the city.
The corridors to the rooms are open to a central atrium. I thought my wife would have trouble with her vertigo here, but no issues.
The lobby, bar and open air restaurant by the beach had a cool retro sixties vibe. This was one of my favourite venues after looking at lots of the named beach side hotels at the other end of Waikiki.
Any more than 2 nights here i would be walking to central Waikiki for more dining choice. The walk to Moana Surfrider is a fast 15-20 minutes. Apart from taxiing you can walk down to the Pink line Trolley bus route and jump on the bus for $2 (the bus was actually an orange double-decker). This does a loop to Ala moana mall and back.
The desk staff were happy to keep our luggage for seven hours beyond checkout while we shopped before going to the airport.

Room tip: Get a renovated Ocean Waikiki room on an upper floor. See photos from balcony.

We stayed 4 nights last July. A family of 5 people in 2 connecting rooms with ocean partial view. Rooms are large with nice design, very comfortable and quiet at night. The view was great particularly at sunset.
The hotel is ideally located with direct access to a nice and quiet beach.
Breakfast is good, but busy so it is necessary to book your table and time in advance.
For lunch and dinner, you need your car to go to Waikiki. No restaurant in the area other than the hotel's one.

This is an oldie but a goody.
They are gradually refurbishing the hotel. even the older rooms are spotless and comfortable.

Food is exceptional and the dining location is awesomely "on the beach"
Try the seafood mixed grill and for breakfast the french toast.

The beach is also very clean, uncrowded and a good place to swim. no corals and a nice stable bottom to wade in if that is your preference. All in the shadow of Diamond Head.

Room tip: The standard rooms are usually good and look towards Diamond Head. They are inexpensive.

Very nice hotel just off the crowded Wakiki. We had one of the rooms with a see view and a balcony. Well, the room was not big, but you spend your time on the balcony anyway.
Two nice restaurants. Breakfast was expensive, but probably average in Honolulu

Room tip: Walking distance to Wakiki centre

I started out at the mega hotel on the other end of Waikiki. I was combining work and relaxation. A local friend suggested New Otani. I fell in love with it. I had a huge patio over the beach, a window wall that made it seem as if I was in the middle of the ocean. There is a large beautiful park outside the front door. The food was great in both restaurants. I had a hard time leaving. It's an older refurbished hotel. The updated rooms were beautifully done. It is a "classy" laid back place without pretention. I would definitely stay here again.
