We actually stayed at the Adm Farragut, an adjacent property under the same ownership. Good breakfast cooked to order. Room was lovely and clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Off street parking is a big plus in Newport. We could walk most places.

My partner and I stayed in Room 303 for my first visit to Newport. The check-in was easy enough. The new gentleman working was so kind to bring our bags to our room and explained the breakfast options both in house and across the street. The property itself is the quintessential New England colonial home with creaky stairs, old charm located on a beautiful street lined with beautiful homes and large trees. The parking is a bit tight, but the stay here at Cleveland House is well worth your time, especially given such close proximity to everything Newport has to offer. The bed was comfortable (we slept like a rock), fan/ac unit in the room if you're like me and need background noise while sleeping, and the shower/tub was deep. Would definitely love to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms are basic, but they are beautiful and comfortable.

While we can say we had a mostly pleasant stay at Cleveland House, we experienced a flying bat in our room on our third day! After noticing the bat and notifying the front desk, they proceeded to remove the animal from our room. The next morning at breakfast, the manager of Cleveland House made an announcement to keep all windows in the rooms closed because it was bat season. As if we opened a window in our room! It was the middle of August and we had the AC running the entire time. He was also unapologetic for the incident and continued to tell us to keep the windows closed. The hotel did switch our room but did not provide us with proper guidance about getting rabies vaccinations. We were left on our own about gathering information and understanding protocol (we also had a 9 month baby in tow) when faced with bat exposure (which consequently led us to visit the local hospital). We could have avoided the hospital visit if staff had properly addressed vaccination protocols.

ANewporter, Manager at Cleveland House, responded to this reviewResponded 24 September 2015

After 20 years in business, we cannot recall ever finding a bat in The Cleveland House. When our guest notified us of this situation, we immediately removed the bat and notified the National Resource Division of the State of Rhode Island. Representatives from the agency arrived and explained that it is currently mating season and bats are active at dusk. They will fly into an open window at this time or during the night time. While our guest had their A/C running, we did find the bathroom window open. We wanted to make other guests aware of the situation by suggesting that they keep their windows closed also. The agency representatives took the bat and found that all tests for rabies and other diseases were negative. They also informed us that even if the bat carried rabies, our guests were not exposed to rabies unless they were bitten by the bat.

We apologize to our guest for this distruption in their stay and for not being better informed, as this was a new situation for us. At the time of occurance, our desk supervisor was very concerned about our guest and moved them to another, larger room. The Management

We have said here twice the past 2 summers. First time was our honeymoon and second time our 1 year Anniversary. We just love it! The Cleveland House is close to everything , restaurants, mansions, shopping ,beaches, sailing etc... The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Rick the owner is hands on along with his family and staff. His son Zac is the most polite and helpful young man you will ever find. We plan on going back again very soon. Lots of great memories here in Newport.

The location was awesome, we would park our car near the hotel and the hotel gave us a parking permit,. We'd have dinner around the hotel, walk there, and walk around the wharfs.

The room was overall clean, it was a bit small, but it did serve out purposes. I wish there were 2 nightstands, there was only 1 and it was hard for me to place towels and my clothes, either need more towel bars/hooks. There was no TV, though we really didn't need one.

The decor was nice however, there was some wallpaper that didn't really match the linens and curtains in the room.

The manager/owner was very courteous/hospitable.
